Chapter 518
Charles’s bond with Sandy was the very essence of a father’s love for his daughter. And it wasn’t the first time Dahlia had brought Sandy over. Each visit, they rode straight up in Charles’s private elevator.
He had witnessed it countless times: Mr. Jenkins cradling Sandy with an affection that seemed to surpass even that for his own daughter. So, even though Mr. Jenkins had just uttered some harsh words, there was a noticeable hesitation to act against Sandy; no one wanted to risk harming her accidentally. After all, if Mr. Jenkins cooled off in a few days, he might come back with a score to settle.
“These are the two people Mr. Jenkins can’t stand. No need to be polite when you see them,” Aiden instructed the security guards, his voice icy as he stepped back, having caught Charles’s subtle nod.
For what this mother and daughter had done, Mr. Jenkins didn’t even want to spare them a glance, let alone treat them with the warmth he once did, showering them with affection. Mr. Jenkins had been misled, mistaking them for someone else. His deep feelings for Debbie had clouded his judgment, allowing emotions to overrule reason when dealing with Dahlia, the imposter.
“Yes, Mr. Chen,” the security guard responded, now resolute in his actions. When Sandy tried to dart towards Charles’s car, they simply hoisted her by the collar and moved her away. With Mr. Jenkins’s orders clear, they were to ensure this mother and daughter didn’t show up at the company’s doorstep again.
“Daddy… Daddy… let me go…” Sandy called out desperately, her legs kicking in the air as she looked towards Charles, refusing to give up. But Charles didn’t spare her a glance.
Dahlia, ignoring Sandy’s pleas, realized that Sandy’s visible injuries hadn’t softened Charles’s heart. Seizing the moment when the guards were distracted, she wheeled herself in front of Charles. Her plan today was to appeal to his softer side. Even if they couldn’t return to their former home, maybe Charles could find them a new place to live. With so many properties in his name, surely one was available in a nice neighborhood. At the very least, he could reactivate her credit card so she wouldn’t have to return to that shabby apartment in Wesley. She could stay in a luxurious suite at one of Jenkins Enterprises’ five-star hotels and figure out her next move.
But Sandy’s failure to soften Charles only added to Dahlia’s discomfort at the thought of going back to that run-down apartment. She couldn’t bear it! How could someone of her status live there? Dahlia forced out tears, looking pitiful and vulnerable.
“Charles, I know you’re upset with me and Sandy because of Charlie, and you’re still holding onto that anger. You want us to suffer,” she pleaded, her tone full of drama as she pressed her hands on her legs. But she failed to notice the murderous rage in Charles’s eyes as she mentioned Charlie’s death. His fury was palpable.
Yet Dahlia, oblivious, continued her act. “Evelyn pushed me off the hill two years ago, leaving me paralyzed…”
Her plan was to use her injury to win some sympathy from Charles, to make him reconsider. But before
she could finish, Charles, eyes
blazing red, grabbed her by theol
throat and snapped, “Dahlia,how dare you bring up your legs!”
“Why did Eve push you off the hill? If you hadn’t provoked her, using Charlie’s ashes to torment her knowing she was struggling with severe depression, would she have lost control?”
“This is your karma, and you dare blame Eve? You’re playing with fire!” Charles’s grip tightened, making it hard for Dahlia to breathe. Panic set in as she felt herself slipping closer to the edge.
Desperately, she clawed at his hands, trying to gasp out, “Charles, I didn’t… it was Evelyn who framed me… Charlie’s ashes are safely in the cemetery…”
But her rehearsed excuses, prepared for this moment, were worthless to Charles now. He wasn’t buying any of it.
“Charles… you can’t just take
Evelyn’s word for it…” Dahlia
attempted to defend herself. But just as she had exploited Debbie’s identity for years without needing proof, now Evelyn had the same luxury. Charles wasn’t listening; he had already made up his mind.
Charles’s loathing for Dahlia ran deep. With each revelation of her deceit, the pressure in his grip intensified. Learning that Dahlia had deliberately blocked Charlie’s kidney transplant, leading to his death, made him wish he could end her right there.
Dahlia, unable to resist, felt her strength ebb away. Her tongue protruded painfully, eyes bulging, face turning an alarming shade of blue and purple from lack of air.
“Mr. Jenkins, calm down! This woman isn’t worth dirtying your hands over!” someone urged, snapping Charles back to the present moment.
