Charles’ breath hitched. The look in his eyes darkened as he gazed at Evelyn. Across from them, Dahlia’s teeth were nearly grinding to dust. What a bitch…
“Who said you can sit down? Go make dinner already.” Carmen’s voice was cold and unyielding.
“Of course, Carmen.” Evelyn slowly stood up, and before doing so, she released Charles’ hand, her fingers trailing down his spine.

“Aunt Carmen, I’ll go help too.” Dahlia made a show of standing up.

Carmen deliberately made things difficult for Evelyn. She sent all the kitchen staff away on various errands, leaving Evelyn alone.
