Charles instinctively furrowed his brow. This meant he could no longer mention Charlie in front of Grandma. He glanced sideways at Evelyn beside him, noticing her visible sigh of relief. Charles’ gaze darkened slightly. Just how long was she planning to keep Charlie hidden?
“If you glare at Eve one more time, believe it or not, I’ll gouge out your eyes.” Rosa came out just in time to see Charles giving Evelyn a cold look again. She was immediately infuriated. Raising her hand, Rosa smacked him hard on the back. “Ouch!” Charles gasped in pain.
“Serves you right!”
Rosa said it served him right, but her eyes were filled with concern. She had forgotten she had just used the whip on Charles.

Evelyn cooked a few of Rosa’s favorite dishes, making Rosa so happy that she ate an extra half bowl of rice.
After dinner, Rosa dragged Evelyn to walk with her in the garden.
Suddenly, the weather changed, and a torrential downpour began. Worried about Rosa’s health, Evelyn took off her jacket and shielded Rosa. She didn’t accept Rosa’s refusal.
By the time the servants arrived with an umbrella, Rosa hadn’t been touched by the rain, while Evelyn was completely soaked.
“Eve, hurry and take a hot shower. Don’t catch a cold,” Rosa urged her.
“Alright.”
Next Monday, Evelyn was due to report to Carlisle Jewels. Worried about catching a cold, she went to Charles’ courtyard.
She entered Charles’ room to take a shower.
Rosa stood behind, watching Evelyn enter Charles’ room without saying a word, her lips curving into a smile.
She couldn’t wait for Evelyn and Charles to spend more nights together, hopefully resulting in a great-grandchild and making it impossible for Charles not to marry Evelyn.

After dinner, Charles headed to his study for a video conference. His meetings lasted at least two hours, so he wouldn’t return to his room so early.
Evelyn, feeling uneasy, still locked

She had been with Charles for five years, and they always lived at Oakwood Manor. They only occasionally visited Jenkins Estate, and even then, they left after dinner. She had never stayed overnight in his room, nor did she have clothes there.
In the bathroom, steam rose, enveloping the space in warmth.
Evelyn stood under the showerhead, turning on the thermostat-controlled water, letting the warm water cascade over her and washing away the chill.
Soon, the bathroom filled with
steam, warming her body gradually. The pitter-patter of water drowned out any noise from outside. She didn’t hear the bedroom door lock being turned.

Charles stood outside the bedroom door, turning the lock, only to find it was locked from the inside.
His gaze darkened.
He didn’t knock but signaled for the butler to bring the key, unlocking the door himself. He stepped into the bedroom and gently closed the door with a “bang.” Evelyn was inside and completely unaware.
Charles stood at the doorway. The bedroom lights were off, and the brightness was coming from the direction of the bathroom.
His gaze shifted. The bright light and frosted glass outlined Evelyn’s graceful figure, indistinct, yet not entirely hidden.
But to Charles, who had memorized Evelyn’s form countless times, even a silhouette was enough to conjure her clear curves in his mind.
Charles’ gaze darkened, his breathing gradually becoming heavier. He locked the door, took off his suit jacket, tossed it aside, and walked over.
He stood at the bathroom door. “Whoosh-”
He reached out and slid the door open.
