Jonah froze for a second. Clearly, he hadn’t expected Hailey to bring up Kaia. He began, “Kaia is my assistant-”
“Exactly. Fire her then. I don’t want her in the Pilsner Group. Can you do that?” Hailey retorted defiantly.
If he was going to ban her from seeing Ewan, then it was only fair that she set her own boundaries too.
Could he follow through?
If he could, then so could she.
Jonah’s face remained unreadable. Calm and composed, he said, “I—”
He started to speak, but a sweet voice called out behind them. “Mr. Pilsner.”
Hailey looked up.
It was Kaia.
Hailey was annoyed. Kaia really was like an unlucky jinx, turning up no matter where she went.
Kaia walked over and said, “Hi, Mr. Pilsner, Ms. Hailey.”
Hailey replied coolly, “Hello, Ms. Ellington.”
“Mr. Pilsner, are you heading to the office today?” Kaia asked.
He shook his head and said, “Not today.”
“Mr. Pilsner, Justin called earlier. He said it’s been a while since everyone got together. They’re meeting at the bar tonight.”
Jonah pursed his lips and replied, “Alright.”
Kaia continued, “Mr. Pilsner, I know it’s a private hangout with your friends. But… would it be alright if I joined? I’ve danced at that bar before, and I can hold my liquor. I could help take care of your drinks.”
Kaia tilted her head up, gazing at Jonah with wide, saccharine eyes full of admiration. She looked like she was about to float away in a cloud of pink bubbles.

The truth was, Kaia didn’t need to try
this hard. What really mattered

Jonah: if he fell for it, nothing else, mattered.
Jonah glanced at Hailey. “You’re coming with me tonight.”
Kaia had just asked to go, but now, he was inviting Hailey instead.
Hailey opened her mouth to speak, but before she could, Jonah turned to Kaia and said, “You can come too.”
He had just given Kaia the green light.
Hailey had been about to turn him down. However, she changed her mind when she heard he was letting Kaia tag along.
Hailey let out a cold laugh. “Sure. I’ve got time tonight. Let’s all go have some fun.”
She had decided to join too.
On the other hand, Kaia clearly wasn’t thrilled. She had been hoping to go with Jonah alone.
“Ms. Hailey, then we’ll all hang out together tonight,” Kaia said, flipping

As her hand lifted, Hailey caught sight of the diamond bracelet sparkling on Kaia’s wrist.

Hailey silently cursed Jonah in her mind. She had stood by him when he was nothing but a struggling nobody.
Now that he was successful, he still hadn’t given her anything as fancy as a diamond bracelet.
