Chapter 275
Dorothea was halfway home when she got a message from Carmen, and she couldn’t help but laugh.
“What’s so funny?” Mamie glanced over, curious.
“It’s nothing. I think I finally get why Bonita backed out all of a sudden p>
Mamie arched a brow. “Oh? Why’s that p>
Dorothea’s tone was loaded. “Probably just some random tension between women p>
Sometimes, two people who barely knew each other could turn into rivals, all because a guy happened to be involved. Dorothea didn’t get it, and honestly, she didn’t want to waste her brainpower on it.
“I’ll keep trying with The George Group, but I’m not giving up on the other two either. If those don’t work out, maybe we can look for a couple more companies p>
“Sounds good,” Mamie said.
Meanwhile, Bonita got out of her car and walked into a cozy French restaurant.
“Beatty, did I keep you waiting p>
Beatty flashed a warm smile. “Nope, I just got here. It’s been forever. You look even prettier than before p>
Bonita blushed a little at the compliment. “Oh, please. I can’t believe you came back. I thought the next time we’d see each other would be overseas p>
They had gone to school together, even though they were in different majors. Somehow, they just clicked. After graduation, Bonita came back home, while Beatty stayed abroad for her doctorate and eventually became a professor in rehab medicine.
Bonita lifted her glass. “Cheers. Welcome home, Beatty p>
“Thank you.” Beatty took a sip of her wine.
“So, how long are you planning to stay this time? Last I heard, you wanted to come
back and see that patient you used to have a crush on. Did you meet up p>
Beatty’s smile turned a little sad. “Yeah, I saw him. But he’s already taken p>
Bonita looked surprised. “He got married p>
“Yeah p>
Back when Latham had moved
home, all the gossip about him was with guys, and Beatty, of all people, knew he wasn’t into mert She had actually let herself hope for a while.
“Oh well. Married is married. Maybe he’s not all that anyway. You’re amazing, Beatty. Somebody out there is going to see that,” Bonita Said.
Beatty just smiled and didn’t mention who the guy was. He was too dazzling, honestly. She didn’t need the trouble.
“Thanks. What about you? I heard you’re getting engaged at the end of the month. Is he a good one p>
Bonita made a face. “He’s alright. Out of all my options, he’s the best. But he’s still hung up on his first love p>
She shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. I doubt that woman could ever take my place, especially since she’s married now p>
Bonita let out a little laugh. “The funniest part is, she came to me today about some business deal p>
She scoffed, shaking her head. “I sent her

Not exactly a great person t
Beatty frowned for a second, but she let it go. “Alright, let’s not talk about stuff that puts you in a bad mood p>
When Dorothea got home, she headed straight for the study. Latham was leaning against the doorway, looking a little sulky.
“Babe, are you done yet p>
Dorothea didn’t even look up. “Go to bed without me. I need to get some work done tonight p>
Latham walked over and set his hands on the desk, gently caging her in his arms.
