Chapter 290
“I’m stubborn, immature, and honestly, I have a bit of a temper. I’m really not girlfriend material. Plus, I absolutely hate blind dates, so I’m sorry. You’re great, and you deserve someone who suits you better. You get what I mean, right p>
Carmen never held back. She always said exactly what she was thinking.
Pearson just smiled, soft and polite, as he picked up the teapot and poured her a cup of tea.
“Want to give it a try p>
Carmen eyed the dark green tea suspiciously, like she was checking for poison or something. She quickly realized how ridiculous that was, grabbed the cup, and took a small sip. “Hmm, not bad p>
“As long as it doesn’t taste like something for old people,” Pearson said.
Carmen suddenly choked and started coughing hard.
Pearson calmly handed her a handkerchief. He came over, just close enough, and gently patted her back.
It took a minute for her to catch her breath. Her nose was red as she glanced up at Pearson, who looked as gentle as ever. Of course he brought that up on purpose. He never forgot a joke.
“Alright, I’m heading out p>
Carmen figured this awkward little blind date would be over and done with, never to be mentioned again. But as soon as she got in her car, even before she made it home, her phone buzzed with a message from her mom.
Did you have a good time today? Pearson really liked you. He wants to know when you two can meet again. How about tomorrow?
Carmen just stared at her screen. Seriously?
On New Year’s Eve, Scott picked Mamie up and took her to the Stephens Estate. No one was happier than Garth.
“Mamie, are you staying over tonight? We have so many rooms, you can pick whichever you want p>
Mamie looked into those hopeful eyes, then over at Scott, whose dark gaze was as deep as ever. She hesitated. “Am I intruding p>
“Not at all,” Ladd jumped in. “It’s gonna be late after the countdown. You should just stay here p>
Mamie smiled, giving in. “Alright, if you don’t mind p>
She really wanted to spend her first New Year’s Eve with Garth.
Pauline grinned, her hands clasped together. “So, when are you two getting married p>
Ladd was clearly thinking the same thing.
“You’ve been together a while now. Maybe it’s time to start planning,” he said.
Ladd had
een extra worried lately t
that Scott would get dumped, s now he was pushing for a wedding
Scott just smiled, easy and casual. “I’ll do whatever Mamie wants.” Mamie froze, caught off guard and not sure what to say.
Marriage? If she agreed, she’d get to spend more time with Garth. But that would mean moving in with a man who felt like a stranger, even if he was her ex. In her memory Scott was someone she barely knew.
But if she didn’t marry him, would Scott let her take Garth away?
Mamie caught Garth’s hopeful eyes. She just couldn’t say no to him. “I’m okay with whatever,” she said softly.
“Really?” Garth jumped right off the couch. “Mamie, will you marry my dad p>
Mamie’s cheeks burned. She stared at the floor, unable to meet anyone’s eyes. “I’ll talk it over with Scott later,” she mumbled.
Scott didn’t miss a beat. “No need to wait. Mamie, will you marry me p>
а
Even though she knew it was half joke, Mamie’s face went bright red.
She
voice barely above,
a whisper Okay
Her answer might have been quiet, but Garth heard it loud and clear. His whole face
lit up.
“Yes! I’m finally getting a mom p>
