Seeing their reactions, Laurel frowned in confusion. “You two know that plastic princess up there on stage?”

Grace nodded. “She’s some distant relative of Bonnie’s. And, get this—she’s divorced!”
She made sure to stress those last three words.

“Divorced?” Laurel’s face twisted with disdain. “I knew she couldn’t be normal!”
What decent person gets married and divorced at such a young age?

Caitlin’s voice was smooth and captivating, her speech both moving and eloquent. The students listened with rapt attention, and even the principal and teachers were hanging on her every word.
“Ms. Belinda, your class has a real dark horse here. She’s going places, mark my words!”
“I know, right? It’s so rare to see a student this outstanding in all my years of teaching.”
The compliments just kept coming. Ms. Belinda basked in the praise, watching Caitlin on stage with a proud smile. “She really is exceptional,” she agreed.

Caitlin, unfazed by the ovation, held her head high and stepped off the stage with calm confidence, every movement dignified and poised.
Celeste leapt up and waved, calling out, “Catie, you were amazing up there!”
Caitlin laughed. “You really think so?”
“Of course I do!”
Watching them, Laurel’s frown deepened. “How does that fake Caitlin know Celeste so well? Are they actually friends?”
