Ann turned tearfully to Keira. “Grandma, even the doctors said Young Master Somerset died because they brought him to the hospital too late. How is that my fault? All I did was give them a box of Heartsteady Elixir! I never stopped the Somersets from taking him to the hospital!”
Since that night, Ann hadn’t had any contact with the Somersets. She hadn’t done anything to keep them from getting Harlan medical help.

Tammie, too, felt that Ann shouldn’t shoulder all the blame. Yara and Liam, as Harlan’s parents, bore the greatest responsibility. “Come on, Ann, don’t cry. I know you didn’t do it on purpose.”
After all, the Heartsteady Elixir Ann brought wasn’t poison-it was meant to protect the heart. If Harlan’s parents had just taken him to the hospital in time, none of this would have happened.

It was the day of Harlan’s funeral.

A familiar voice called from behind her-Fortune.
“Grandpa,” Caitlin said, turning around.
Fortune’s eyes were gentle as he spoke. “Catie, I wanted to talk to you about something.”
“Sure,” Caitlin replied. “But let’s go inside, Grandpa. It’s cold out here.”
He followed her inside.
Once they were settled, Caitlin poured him a glass of water.
Only then did Fortune finally speak. “Catie, now that the holidays are over, I’m planning to go back to Silverhaven.”
Back to Silverhaven?
Caitlin immediately looked up, concerned. “Grandpa, did something upset you?”
“No, nothing at all. I’ve enjoyed my time here in the city,” Fortune said with a warm smile. “But I’m used to life in Silverhaven, and you know all my friends are there. Besides, the property management company still needs me. It’s time I headed back to work.”
