Jimmy couldn’t be bothered to explain it to Norman in detail. “Just wait. Once we’re on the plane, I guarantee she’ll end up in the seat right next to us.”
“Seriously?” Norman raised an eyebrow, half in disbelief.
Jimmy just smiled. “That’s what I call manufactured fate.”

Jimmy turned to him, his tone dry. “Never judge by appearances, Norman. That’s exactly why women keep getting the better of you.”
Norman rubbed his nose, falling in step behind Jimmy. “You’re overthinking it. Maybe she’s not even interested in you.”
Jimmy’s reply was calm, almost bored. “We’ll see soon enough. she’s on our flight, she’ll pick the

Half an hour later, Jimmy and Norman boarded the plane.

Jimmy always flew coach, and this time, he and Norman had seats together in a two-seat row by the aisle. The spot across the aisle was empty close enough to be considered together even i technically separated by the
walkway.
After they settled in, Norman kept glancing around, clearly hoping to spot Caitlin. But minutes ticked by, and the seat across the aisle remained empty.
Finally, Norman grinned. “Told you, Jimmy! You’re just imagining things. She’s not even here, and it’s almost time to go.”
“What’s the rush?” Jimmy didn’t even look up from his newspaper. “We’ve still got twenty minutes before takeoff.”
As if on cue, a young woman in a blue dress appeared, wheeling her suitcase down the aisle.
From where Jimmy sat, eyes on his paper, all he could see was the hem of her sky blue dress and a pair of pale ankles. She stopped fight by their row and began hoisting her suitcase into the overhead compartment.

Norman nudged him. “Maybe you should look up before you say that.”
