let out a slow breath, trying to ease the tension in her shoulders.
“Well, look who’s the center of attention today.” A voice, laced with obvious hostility, cut through the quiet behind her.
In the reflection, Eleanor saw Serena leaning against the doorframe, arms folded,
a mocking smirk tugging at her crimson lips.
Eleanor didn’t turn around or bother to answer.
“So, what did you do to get my brother to invite you up on stage?” Serena pressed, her tone sharp. “There are plenty of people here with more credentials and reputation than you. Only then did Eleanor finally turn to face her. Serena was dressed head-to-toe in designer Chanel, her makeup flawless, though the bitterness twisting her features ruined any sense of elegance.

Eleanor didn’t break stride as she walked out of the restroom. Serena, frustrated that her warning hadn’t landed, stomped after her in her heels.
