It occurred to Simone that Eleanor’s father, Elliot, had done the same. His final years of research were completely focused on leukemia. He had also been working behind the scenes to secure a future for his daughter and granddaughter.
She sighed. Ian had done all of this without saying a word, and to this day, Eleanor remained oblivious.
Thankfully, the leukemia drug was a success. Marilyn’s full recovery meant that if Eleanor or her daughter ever inherited Sara’s condition, it would be treatable. Simone felt a wave of relief. She examined Sara’s test results again. It was, indeed, the same type of leukemia as Marilyn’s, and the medical report clearly indicated it was hereditary. Elliot must have entrusted lan with this responsibility before he died, which was why he spared no expense in pushing the research forward.
And the donor sample Elliot had given lan must have been for this research as well. lan had been preparing for every possibility.

The festive warmth had faded, replaced by the crisp chill of early spring. Eleanor walked her daughter out the door. Evelyn, with her small backpack on, skipped happily. “Mommy, is there going to be fun stuff at school today p>
“I saw your teacher sent out a list of games and activities. You can participate in all of them,” Eleanor told her.
“Yay! I want to do them all!” Evelyn cheered.
Just as they stepped out of the elevator, Eleanor saw a black Maybach already waiting by her parking spot.
“Daddy!” Evelyn cried out, letting go of Eleanor’s hand and running toward him.
lan knelt with his arms open, and Evelyn threw herself into his embrace, planting a kiss on his cheek. “Daddy, are you here to come to school with me for the first day p>
“I am,” lan said, smiling and kissing her back. “I came just to take you to register p>
“Mommy, can we take Daddy’s car to school, please?” Evelyn asked, turning to her mother.

lan drove, occasionally glancing at his daughter’s excited face in the rearview mirror, a gentle smile on his lips. He pulled into a parking spot near the school, got out to open Evelyn’s door, and took her backpack. Eleanor had already gotten out on her own.
lan held Evelyn’s hand as they walked, his tall, commanding presence drawing glances from other parents. Some who recognized him did a double take, surprised to see the wealthy tycoon’s daughter attending this
school.
“Dr. Sutton, you’re here early to register your daughter!” a friendly mother greeted Eleanor. She had met her at a parent-teacher conference.
Eleanor offered a polite smile in return. “Is that your child’s father?” the mother asked, nodding toward lan, who was adjusting the bow on Evelyn’s school uniform at the gate.
