Chapter 917
The doctor handed him a form. After paying the fee, Henry returned to find Selma waiting for him, looking at him like a child waiting for a parent.
“Does it still hurt?” he asked gently.
Selma nodded. “Yes. They gave me seven stitches.” The pain was worse now than when it had been bleeding.
“Come on, let’s get that CT scan to make sure everything’s okay,” Henry said.
Selma nodded and stood up, but she was still dizzy. Seeing her sway, Henry instinctively put an arm around her shoulders, letting her lean on him for support. She looked up at him gratefully, a faint blush coloring her pale cheeks.
When they got to the imaging department, the nurse at the counter looked them over. “Excuse me, is there any chance the patient could be pregnant? CT scans are not recommended during pregnancy p>
The question hit Henry like a ton of bricks, bringing back memories of that night. He turned to look at Selma.
She, however, answered the nurse with confidence. “No, I’m not p>
Henry grabbed her wrist and pulled her aside. “Are you sure? This isn’t something to joke about p>
Selma looked him in the eye, her expression unwavering. “I took a pill the morning after p>
Henry froze, momentarily speechless. He had made a mistake, hurt her, and forced her to deal with the consequences alone. Even he wanted to call himself a scumbag.
“I’m so sorry,” he whispered.
Seeing his guilt, Selma shook her head and managed a faint smile. “It’s in the past, Henry. You don’t need to worry about it p>
Her understanding and casual dismissal only made him feel worse.
“Selma Quigley, you’re next,” the nurse called out.
“Let’s go,” Henry said, taking Selma’s hand and walking with her toward the CT
room.
After the scan, they had to wait half an hour for the results. Henry helped Selma to a chair in the hallway. He checked the time again—it was three o’clock. He could still make it to the movie, but Selma’s parents hadn’t arrived yet. He couldn’t just abandon her after a car crash and seven stitches.
Just then, his phone buzzed. “Henry, I’m here. Are you on your way p>
His fingers hovered over the screen, unsure how to reply.
“Henry,” Selma said quietly, “is Miss Shannon waiting for you? You should go. I’ll be fine p>
He looked up, pushing down his anxiety. “It’s okay. I’ll leave after your parents get here p>
