Hearing Frank agree, Naomi felt a little better. “Alright, I’ll message you the details later p>

“Ethan’s back, isn’t he? I haven’t seen him come down,” Frank noted, having waited a while without seeing his brother.

“Ethan left on business yesterday and hasn’t returned. I’m not sure where he went,” Florence told him.

“I’m finished. Please take your time,” Arabella said, setting down her utensils and leaving the dining room.

“You’ve eaten so little,” Florence remarked with concern, watching her go.

“I’m just not very hungry. Please don’t worry,” Arabella replied before heading upstairs.

“Even though Arabella says she isn’t troubled by the Macdonalds‘ situation, she’s clearly been eating less lately,” Florence observed quietly.

“Frank, what really happened to the Macdonald family? Do you know?” Florence asked, turning to him.

“It appears they crossed someone,” Frank stated calmly.

“I see,” Florence said, beginning to understand.

“Frank, do you know who they offended?” Naomi asked, curiosity getting the better of her.

“I don’t,” Frank replied. He actually had an idea, but it wasn’t something to share.

“Alright p>

“Naomi, have you been in touch with Matthew recently?” Florence asked, shifting the subject. At the mention of Matthew, Naomi’s expression dimmed. She’d visited Robert just yesterday and been sharply dismissed. The memory still sting.

“No,” she said flatly.

From her tone, Frank sensed the distance between them had grown.

“And when you visited Robert yesterday, was he his usual self with you?” Florence continued gently.

“Mr. Stewart is still fond of me. He just needs a lot of rest right now, so I shouldn’t visit too often,” Naomi offered, finding a polite excuse for not seeing Robert more frequently.

She didn’t mention she hadn’t actually been allowed in to see him–that would have sounded

worse.

“That’s good,” Florence said, though her expression remained thoughtful.

As they spoke, Arabella came back downstairs, changed and ready to go out.

Frank had been keeping an eye out for her. When he saw her, he approached. “Arabella, you’re headed to the hospital, right? I can drive you p>

“Thank you, Frank, but I’ll take my own car,” Arabella declined politely.

Knowing Edward, he might have told his family he was in the hospital to keep them from worrying. If any Macdonalds were visiting just then and saw her arrive with Frank–whose presence naturally commanded attention–it could raise questions.

Ethan had already drawn Carter’s suspicion before, and she’d even had to ask Ethan to play along. Luckily, only Carter had been there that day, and she’d managed that. But if someone like Frank, with his unmistakable air of influence, were seen with her now, it might stir up more complications.

It was safer to go alone.

“Alright. Drive carefully,” Frank said with a note of concern.

“I will. Mom, Dad, I’m heading out,” Arabella said, bidding them goodbye before walking out.

“Frank, I’m going for my flight lesson later. If you have time, you should come watch,” Naomi invited, hoping he’d see how diligently she was applying herself.

“No, I’ll pass. Just focus on your lessons,” Frank replied.

“Mom, Dad, I should get going too,” Frank said. He’d really just returned to check on Arabella. Seeing she was managing, he felt easier.

“Of course p>

Naomi was quietly frustrated that Frank left without so much as a second glance her way.

The difference in how her brothers treated her compared to Arabella was becoming more and more obvious.

Arabella didn’t drive straight to the hospital. Instead, she stopped first to pick up some of Edward’s favorite foods, then continued on her way.

Just as she was getting out of her car at the hospital, she ran into Matthew, who was also arriving.

Seeing her arms full of packages, Matthew couldn’t help but remark, “Quite a breakfast, Dr. Macdonald p>

Arabella glanced at the bags in her hands and smiled slightly. “Mr. Stewart, here to see Robert? How is he doing p>

“Your treatment plan is showing results. He’s gradually regaining his strength,” Matthew said, his tone carrying a note of approval.

“I’m glad to hear it. I’ll stop by to see him a little later,” Arabella said before heading inside.

“Of course,” Matthew replied, watching her for a moment before turning toward his grandfather’s room.

Arabella pushed open the door to Edward’s room and walked in, her hands still full.

Seeing her, Edward’s face lit up with a warm smile. “You’re here again? Don’t you have work p>

“My schedule is flexible. As long as I get my tasks done, my boss doesn’t mind,” Arabella offered lightly.

“Well, your company sounds quite understanding,” Edward remarked.

“By the way, I was too out of it yesterday to ask–that car you were driving, wasn’t it a sports model? Where did it come from?” Edward had meant to ask during the ride yesterday, but he’d been too weak. Now, with Arabella here, he finally remembered.

Hearing his question, Arabella paused slightly. She’d forgotten about the car. How could she explain this without raising his suspicions.
