Others might have been guessing, but the Hamilton family knew that voice. It was definitely Naomi.
“I have no idea. She went to fix her makeup, didn’t she?” Florence looked confused.
Ethan shook his head. “She wasn’t in the bathroom.”
“Let’s go check it out.” Frank’s expression tightened as he made the call.
They headed toward the guest rooms.

Florence’s heart pounded uneasily, her steps quickening without her realizing it.
Frank and Ethan followed close behind. Alfred glanced at Arabella. “You coming?”
“No.” Arabella shook her head. “I’ll stay here with Grandpa and Grandma.”
“Okay.” Alfred took off after the others.
Arabella walked over to Ryan and Lena. “Grandpa, Grandma.”
“Sweetheart, what’s going on?” They both looked worried.
“I’m not sure yet. Mom and the guys went to check.” Arabella kept her voice calm. “We’ll know soon.”
“Dr. Hamilton, where’s Matthew?” Robert asked, his brow furrowed.
Arabella explained, “His suit got stained. He went to the guest area to change.”
Ryan and Robert exchanged a look. Neither said anything, but their expressions shifted.
Decades in business had sharpened their instincts.
“That boy’s being careless.” Ryan sighed.
Robert’s jaw tightened, but he stayed quiet.

Arabella raised an eyebrow. They’d already pieced it together from almost nothing. That was the mark of men who’d steered their families through generations.
“Grandpa, Grandma, Robert, don’t worry.” Arabella’s voice was steady. “It’ll be fine.”
“You know what’s happening?” Both men looked at her, surprise flickering in their eyes.
Arabella shrugged. “Same as you. Just putting pieces together.”
Ryan and Robert paused, then laughed despite themselves. “You’re something else, kid.”
Arabella turned to Robert. “Aren’t you going to check on him?”
Robert raised an eyebrow. “Why would I?”

“Haven’t you been hoping Matthew would settle down?” It was the perfect setup.
Naomi’s little scheme wasn’t hard to read.
Robert studied her for a moment, his gaze sharp enough to make her shift slightly.
“Robert?” What was that look for?
“Dr. Hamilton, is there really no chance for you and Matthew?” Why was she pushing him toward someone else?
“We’re colleagues. That’s it.” Arabella’s response was firm. “Nothing more.”
Robert pressed, unwilling to let it go. “You’ve never felt anything for him?”
Arabella gave a small, wry smile. “Robert, you should probably go check on your grandson. And Naomi.”
She’d almost said “future granddaughter–in–law“, but caught herself. Now wasn’t the time.
Robert sighed, shaking his head.
Ryan clapped him on the shoulder. “Don’t count them out yet. Let’s see how this plays out.”
“Grandpa, I’m going to say goodbye to Grandma.” Arabella started toward Lena.
“You’re not staying to see what happens?” Ryan asked.
Arabella blinked. “How did you know I was leaving?”
Ryan smiled mysteriously. “Lucky guess.”
“Grandpa.” Arabella gave him a mock glare. “I’m not a kid anymore. Stop teasing me.”

His smile softened into something fond. “You’ve been keeping your distance all night so no one would notice you. Then you came over when the coast was clear. Wasn’t hard to figure out.”
Arabella laughed. “Nothing gets past you.”
“Go say goodbye to your grandma. If you want to leave, leave.” Ryan waved her off. He knew she hated these events anyway.
“Thanks, Grandpa.” She smiled warmly, then turned to Robert. “I’ll head out now, Robert.”
“Go ahead.” Robert nodded.
Arabella walked toward Lena. Robert watched her go and sighed. “Why aren’t those two getting closer? They seemed to get along before.”
Ryan could only sigh in response. “Those two are sharp. Too sharp for us old men to keep up with.”
“Such a shame. She would’ve been perfect.” Robert shook his head.
“Don’t give up yet.” Ryan tried to reassure him. “If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen.”
Robert glanced at him. “You say that, but you don’t look convinced.”

“I’m just not sure fate’s on their side,” Ryan admitted.
They looked at each other and sighed again.
Arabella reached Lena and slipped an arm through hers. “Grandma, you must be tired. Let’s go sit down.”
“Arabella, sweetheart.” Lena’s face lit up the moment she saw her.
“Don’t worry about what’s happening. Mom and the others have it handled.” Arabella guided her to a seating area.
