Confrontation at the Flight Academy

“Arabella, let’s go,” Lucas said, lowering his voice.

Arabella snapped out of her reverie and responded.

Hank shot Lucas a sharp look. “I thought you said it was unnecessary? Feel free to sit this one out.”

He kept making disruptive comments–what a headache.

“Since it’s a group activity now, of course I’m coming,” Lucas replied, as if it were obvious.

Naturally, he was going because of Arabella. If she was attending, there was no way he was staying behind.

“Hmph, once we’re over there, keep your opinions to yourself. If you cause another scene, don’t blame me for sending you back to the office,” Hank warned, still visibly annoyed.

“Alright, I hear you,” Lucas agreed, his tone sulky.

Only then did Hank seem somewhat appeased and hurried to catch up with Matthew. “Mr. Stewart, I’ll have one of our senior instructors provide the technical overview.”

“Arabella, we should go too,” Lucas said, turning back to her.

Arabella had little choice but to follow.

Soon, the rest of the group began trailing after them, excitement buzzing through the crowd.

“Come on, let’s check it out.”

“It’s Mr. Stewart in person–he’s practically a legend. Can’t believe we get to be here for this.”

“I know, right?”

As the chatter slowly moved away, Naomi stood watching the crowd depart, her face pale.

“How did it come to this?” Naomi murmured, a sharp pang of disappointment in her chest.

“What do you expect? Arabella’s clearly playing games,” Ruby said with a dismissive sniff.

Naomi’s eyes shimmered with hurt. “But Matthew,., he didn’t even glance my way.”

“Naomi, don’t overthink it. Right now, you just need to show Mr. Stewart that you’re more capable than Arabella. Once he sees your skills, he’ll notice you,” Ruby said softly, linking her arm through Naomi’s in a show of support.

Naomi looked at Ruby uncertainly. “Do you really think I can?”

She suddenly felt a wave of insecurity. No matter what she did, it never seemed to capture Matthew’s attention.

“Of course you can. You’re better than Arabella in every way. Matthew’s just… temporarily distracted by her. Once he sees your true qualities, he’ll know who the right choice is,” Ruby insisted.

“I…” Naomi bit her lip, hesitation written all over her face.

“Come on, stop hesitating. They’re getting away. We need to catch up,” Ruby urged, pulling Naomi along as she quickened her pace to join the back of the group.

When they arrived at the newly constructed training hangar, Hank was personally walking Matthew through the specs of the latest flight simulators.

Matthew appeared to be listening, but his gaze kept drifting subtly toward where Arabella stood.

At some point, Arabella had ended up near the front of the group, not far from Matthew.

Arabella listened with genuine interest, paying close attention to the explanations.

“Naomi, see? That’s Arabella’s whole act–playing hard to get. If you don’t make a move now, Mr. Stewart will slip right through your fingers,” Ruby whispered, pulling Naomi forward as she nudged her way through the cluster of students.

When they reached Arabella’s side, a sly glint flashed in Ruby’s eyes. She deliberately stumbled, lurching sideways toward Arabella.

“Thud.”

“Ow!” Ruby missed her mark entirely and landed hard on the concrete floor, wincing in pain.

Naomi immediately crouched beside her. “Ruby, are you okay?”

“It hurts,” Ruby whined, her eyes welling up with theatrical tears.

She was baffled–she had meant to shove Arabella off balance, so how did she end up sprawled on the ground?

“Nice one, klutz,” Lucas remarked, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

Served her right. Did she think no one saw her little stunt?

“Shut up!” Ruby felt anger boiling up inside her.

Naomi helped Ruby to her feet. Noticing a dark smear and a tear on Ruby’s trousers near the knee, she gasped. “Oh no, you’re bleeding!”

Ruby looked down and saw it too. Furious, she pointed an accusing finger at Arabella. “This is your fault!”

Arabella looked at her with an expression of pure innocence. “How is this my fault?”

“You-!” Ruby gritted her teeth, unable to form a complete retort.

She was forced to swallow her own bitter pill.

After all, she couldn’t very well admit she had tried to shove Arabella on purpose, only for Arabella to step aside effortlessly, leaving

her to tumble onto the hard floor.

“Ruby, maybe you should go to the campus clinic first,” Naomi suggested, genuinely concerned about the graze,

“I’m fine,” Ruby hissed through clenched teeth. Leaving now was out of the question.

Hank frowned. “Young lady, if you’re injured, you should go get that cleaned and bandaged. You don’t want it getting infected.”

“Exactly. If you can’t even walk straight, don’t embarrass yourself out here,” Lucas added dismissively.

Ruby’s face flushed with humiliation and rage. In a moment of blind anger, she blurted out, “What are you so proud of, huh? Do you actually think Arabella likes you? She’s just keeping you around as a backup! Now that Mr. Stewart is showing interest, she’s dropped you. And you’re still following her around like a lost puppy. It’s pathetic!”

‘What did you just say?” Lucas‘ expression turned dangerously dark. Had she lost her mind?

Ruby lifted her chin defiantly. “What, did I hit a nerve?”

‘You’d better shut your mouth. Now.” Lucas‘ voice turned icy, full of warning.

‘Why, feeling guilty? Scared I’ll say more?” Ruby, emboldened by the audience, pressed on. “You’re just her second choice! Did you really think you were special?”

“Slap!”

A crisp sound cut through the hangar, and the scene fell into stunned silence.

Ruby covered her stinging cheek, staring at Arabella in utter disbelief. “You hit me!”

“Apologize to Lucas,” Arabella said calmly, her voice quiet yet carrying an undeniable authority that brooked no argument.
