True Heiress Returns to Her Unemployed Rich Family Chapter 467

Chapter 467

Brielle huffed, “And here I was, planning to thank you for helping me out last time. Forget it- I’m done with you.” She stormed off without another word.

She came and went like a sudden gust of wind, leaving Arabella slightly shaking her head at the dramatic exit.

Arabella arched an eyebrow toward Lucas. “You seem to know her pretty well.”

“Come on, don’t say that. I barely know her at all,” Lucas defended himself quickly, almost pleadingly.

With a shrug, Arabella replied, “At least your read on her personality was spot–on.”

She really did give off that entitled, princess–like vibe.

“Spend an hour with her and you’ll see exactly what I mean,” Lucas said, wiping an imaginary tear of frustration.

“So what actually happened? I didn’t think you’d actually agree to take her home,” Arabella pressed. She remembered being pulled away by Matthew that day, but Lucas going along with it had surprised her.

Lucas replayed the events for her, then gritted his teeth. “That damn Matthew–he totally set me up. Couldn’t deal with her himself, so he dumped her on me.”

A faint smile touched Arabella’s lips. “Sounds like he trusted you could handle it.”

“Are you making fun of me?” Lucas asked, exasperated.

She chuckled lightly. “I meant it as a compliment. But if you’re going to take it that way, I’ll pretend I never said it.”

“Alright, let’s just eat. And can we please not bring up her again?” Lucas muttered, looking genuinely traumatized by the memory.

Arabella shrugged and turned her attention to her meal.

Once Brielle’d left the garden bistro, she immediately dialed Matthew.

“Matthew, you need to do something about that grumpy jerk. He was totally rude to me,”

Brielle complained, her voice sharp with irritation.

Matthew’s tone was icy. “Where did those pictures come from?“.

“I took them myself! I ran into them here,” Brielle shot back.

“Here‘ where?” Matthew’s voice held a steely edge.

“The garden bistro, okay?” Brielle replied impatiently. “And listen, I sent them to tell you–just forget about her. She’s already taken. You should really just move on and–hello? Hello?”

The line had gone dead. Brielle pulled the phone away from her ear, pouting as her eyes grew slightly watery.

So rude, hanging up like that,” she mumbled, feeling a wave of self–pity. “What was Dad thinking, trying to set me up with someone so cold?”

“Ms. Miller, you’re back so soon? Did you finish your meal?” The butler, Kevin Rollins, approached, his tone concerned.

Kevin, I lost my appetite. I didn’t eat anything,” Brielle sighed. How could she eat after all that?

someone upset you?” Kevin asked, protective at once. “I’ll have a word with them.”

Brielle caught his arm. “No, don’t. Let’s just go home.”

“Absolutely not! Who would dare mistreat you?” Kevin insisted, visibly offended.

“I’ll deal with him myself,” Brielle said firmly. For some reason, she didn’t want the butler confronting Lucas directly.

This was her problem to handle.

Seeing Brielle slip quietly into the car, Kevin reluctantly let the matter drop.

“Ms. Miller, would you like to try another restaurant?” he offered gently.

“No, let’s just go home,” Brielle murmured, slumping into her seat. A strange gloom had settled over her, though she couldn’t quite explain why.

With other choice, Kevin instructed the driver, “Take us home, please.”

away, carrying Brielle off into the evening.

Matthew sat behind his desk, his expression dark and stormy. A chill seemed to radiate from him, thick enough to make anyone in the room uneasy.

“Mr. Stewart,” Andy began, fighting back a shiver. “We confirmed that Dr. Hamilton was indeed dining with Lucas at the garden bistro.”

“And?” Matthew’s voice was frigid.

Andy swallowed. “Lucas did arrange… a romantic gesture. It looks like a confession.”

Matthew’s gaze dropped to his phone screen–to the photo of Arabella smiling as she accepted a bouquet from Lucas. Their eyes met in the frame, both wearing tender, happy smiles.

“Bang.”

Matthew slammed the phone down onto the desk.

Here it comes.

Andy thought grimly, but he pushed forward. “Mr. Stewart, should I have the car brought around?”

Instead of sitting here brooding, wouldn’t it be better to see the situation firsthand?

Matthew shot him a cold look. “There’s nothing on the schedule. Why would I need the car?”

“Right,” Andy replied quietly. He didn’t dare say more and simply lowered his head, bracing for the coming storm.

Silence fell over the office–a long, heavy silence that seemed to stretch endlessly.

It dragged on so long Andy started to feel a cold sweat on the back of his neck. He risked a glance upward, then quickly looked down again.

Mr. Stewart is really furious. Today is not going to be pleasant.

Just then, Robert’s cheerful voice echoed from the doorway. “Let’s see how busy my favorite workaholic is today.”

“Mr. Robert Stewart!” Andy looked toward Robert with grateful, almost tearful eyes. A savior.

Thank heavens.

Noticing Andy’s expression, Robert frowned. “What’s with the face?”

Andy gestured subtly toward Matthew. “I think… he’s nursing a broken heart.”

“What?” Robert was taken aback.

“Dr. Hamilton… seems to be seeing someone now,” Andy whispered.

Robert’s brow furrowed deeply. “Seriously?”

“Ms. Miller saw them together,” Andy added softly.

“Well, I’ll be…” Robert trailed off, momentarily at a loss.

This was too sudden. It couldn’t be true–could it?

“Get out,” Matthew snapped, glaring at Andy.

What was all that whispering about?
