Chapter 780 IMMORTAL
I fluttered my eyes open slowly and was greeted by the early morning sunshine.
I put hand over my face to block the ray of sunshine and turned to see where I was.
I was in my bed in the healer’s quarters.
And then I froze instantly.
How had I even gotten here?
I attempted to get up but my body felt like it was on fire.
“Don’t get up.” Came mother’s family voice.
I looked up and saw her come in with a steaming plate.
“Your body should still ache.” She said as she came to my side.
A piece of leaf landed from my forehead to my laps.
It was one of those leaves mother usually placed on her patients whenever they were ill with a fever.
She helped me adjust onto my back whilst she set up the pillows.
“There.” She said as I leaned in.
It felt much comfortable.
She turned and shoved a bowl of brewing chicken soup in my face.
“How did I-
“Shhh.” Mother gently hushed me.
She picked up the spoon and nodded at me to open my mouth.
“You need to have some of this first. Gain back your strength.” She said.
I grimaced but did as she instructed.
After about my tenth spoon I was much better.
“Did I have a fever?” I asked nodding at the leaf on my lap.
She nodded as she said set the bowl aside and gently brushed my hsif. “Yes honey. But you got better at night. The leaf worked like magic.”
I chewed my bottom lip and thought to myself for a second before finally blurting out.
“How did I get here?” I asked.
“You don’t remember?” She said her face written with surprise all over.
I shook my head. “No. I don’t remember much…. Except for.”
And then I paused.
I started to remember bit by bit.
I had been on my horse and then a man who looked mad had run through screaming.
Flashes of my horse getting violent erupted through my mind and then slowly I saw myself crashing to the floor.
The man was before me and he became hysterical.
Pointing at me.
Telling me I brought death.
Telling me I was evil and I didn’t belong here.
And then he had raised his hand with a knife and almost cut me before he was flung out of my way.
And then Aiden appeared before me.
The last parts of it could remember in smaller bits.
He took me in his arms and we were riding on his horse.
Flashes of how comfortable and safe I had felt in his arms enveloped me.
And then everything went dark.
I turned quickly to mother.
“Aiden brought you here.” Mother explained.
I blinked in disbelief at the thought of him carrying me like a leprous child in front of everyone.
Now everyone would think we did in fact have something.
“You were too tired.” Mother further explained.
I adjusted and attempted to raise my leg up when I felt a piercing pain through.
“Be gentle.” Mother chastised as she hovered over my leg. “Aiden had said you probably bruised your leg but I had hoped it wasn’t true.”
She massaged my leg while I writhed in pain.
I stretched and touched my leg and the moment I did, I felt the pain disappear instantly.
I lifted my leg and there was nothing.
“The pain is gone.” I said.
Mother blinked while I looked on in fascination.
I had never before healed myself.
I only ever healed other people.
Now that I thought about it, I had never been ill before.
As if reading my mind, Mother through a shaky voice said. “Ruby you’ve never been ill before.”
I frowned.
I had never even had a bruise.
For as long as I could remember whenever I fell or scraped a part of my skin there was no blood.
The one time I had seen blood was when my milk tooth fell off and instantly the injury healed.
I had never for once fallen ill.
And yet here I had been with a broken leg.
She looked worried, well, so was I.
“What happened at that place ?” Mother pressed. “All of them have refused to say a word.”
I shook my head. “It was just some man called Old Bart or something of the sort. He went on yelling at me. Calling me some sort of evil and how I didn’t belong here. He wanted to attack me but I guess Aiden stopped him in time.”
I didn’t mention my impending headache and go the caves had affected me.
“I’m sure it was just nothing.” I waved my hand. “They said he is mental so.”
Mother didn’t seem convinced.
“Is your leg now okay?” She asked me.
I nodded.
“Why do you think it didn’t heal itself this time?” I asked.
She shrugged. “Who knows these things? But I’ve gotten some message from some mages. If everything goes well they will take away the powers you’re having. Until then you need to stay away from Aiden.”
My shoulders dropped. “I can’t.”
“You can’t or you won’t.” She frowned.
I couldn’t explain to her what had happened.
If mother knew that Aiden hadn’t just paid up all our debt, but he also suspected I had powers, she would pack up all our items and have us leave at night.
Eventually Aiden would find us and kill us all.
Moreover there was something pulling me to the place.
For the first time I felt a magnetic pull despite the fact I had never shifted.
Mother sighed heavily and shook her head. “You need to stay away from him Ruby. He isn’t good for you. The earlier you realize that the better.”
And with that she rose up to her feet and left the room.
I frowned to myself.
What did she know what was good for me?
I touched the side of my belt and held up the pouch of blue sand Aiden had given me.
Something told me the minute I discovered what this was would be the beginning of my problems.
