Chapter 1169
[ 613 words ]
Yvonne left.
Dan completely lost it.
“She actually went to comfort Xander! She’s pandering to him! Is this a joke?”
Carroll walked over cautiously. “Boss.”
“That Xander isn’t even a real man! This is pissing me off!”
“Why didn’t you let us take him out earlier?” Carroll asked, genuinely confused.
He had already called for backup. If they had swarmed him, Xander wouldn’t have stood a chance.
At that suggestion, Dan’s face turned thunderous.
“Take him out? So Yvonne can hate me even more?”
Carroll fell silent.
Dan touched his aching jaw, unable to swallow the bitter resentment burning in his chest.
The mere thought of Yvonne rushing off to coddle Xander made him want to break something.
…
Meanwhile, in the car.
Xander was speeding down the road, his grip white-knuckled on the steering wheel. But the moment Yvonne rested her hand protectively over her pregnant belly, he eased off the gas.
His expression, however, remained incredibly sour.
“Hey, stop being mad, okay?” Yvonne murmured.
Xander didn’t say a word, keeping his eyes locked on the road with a massive chip on his shoulder.
“I told you about it because I wanted to be totally transparent with you,” Yvonne explained. “It proves I don’t have any lingering feelings for Dan.”
“And look what happened. You went and beat him up anyway…”
Yvonne was starting to think she had misunderstood her mother’s advice about transparency.
Otherwise, why would things have spiraled out of control like this?
“I should have killed him so he’d never dare come to you alone again,” Xander snapped.
Yvonne blinked.
Well, this was escalating quickly.
“You might not have feelings for him, but he definitely still wants you. Don’t you see that?”
His voice was absolutely saturated with jealousy.
“It doesn’t matter what he wants,” Yvonne reasoned.
“What if his relentless pursuit actually works?”
People weren’t afraid of the obvious; they were afraid of the ‘what ifs.’
Dan had survived a ‘what if’ situation before! Who’s to say he couldn’t pull off another miracle?
Xander huffed angrily.
Yvonne, who had always been a fiercely independent woman, rarely ever spoke softly to anyone.
But right now, she was lowering her
Sunet
defenses to soothe him. “Alright, alright, I’m sorry… Don’t be mad okay?”
“You shouldn’t have seen him in the first place.”
“He blocked my car on the road. I couldn’t get past him!”
“You should have run him over!” Xander declared.
Yvonne was utterly speechless.
He was really doubling down on this!
Could this man even be reasoned with tonight? Her head was starting to throb…
“Couldn’t you just turn around?” Xander pressed.
“Fine, fine. It’s my fault. Next time, I’ll just turn around.”
“No, run him over!”
Yvonne let out a heavy sigh.
When this man decided to be ruthless, he put the most vindictive women to shame.
Seeing her stay silent, Xander’s
expression darkened even further
“Are you hesitating? Do you still care about him?
“No, I…”
“Then are you going to run him over or not?”
“I’ll run him over! I’ll run him over, okay?!”
This was exhausting.
Who said petty women were hard to deal with? In her experience, a petty man was
a hundred times worse!
Especially Xander in his current state. He seemed completely unappeasable.
“Are you serious?” Xander demanded.
“Yes.”
“I don’t believe you.”
Yvonne rubbed her temples. Her headache was getting worse.
“Then what exactly do you want me to do?”
Trying to comfort Xander was like trying to reason with a brick wall.
Tell him the truth, he doesn’t believe it. Humor him, he doesn’t want to hear it.
It was impossible…
“How about you go back and hit him right now?” Xander suggested.
“Okay, now you’re just being ridiculous.”
Go back and hit Dan?
Even a fight needed a valid reason. Hadn’t she beaten Dan up enough in the past?
No matter how deep her previous
hatred for Dan ran, all those bet
beatdowns she had delivered had already settled the score.
To go back and punch him now for no reason at all? That was just absurd!
