Chapter 574
574:
Collin met his gaze steadily. “Let’s set that aside and focus on our work,” he replied. “We don’t have time to worry about Jeffery right now.”
Collin’s resentment toward Jeffery and Carol ran deep—he had no intention of forgiving them for the danger they had exposed Linsey to. He was prepared to confront them both when the time was right.
By Monday morning, as employees filtered into CR Corporation’s lobby, Jeffery was still there. Normally, as the head of Lawson Group, he would have been shown great respect. But this weekend’s rumors had changed everything.
Employees exchanged knowing glances as Jeffery passed, clearly aware that the founder wanted to distance himself from Lawson Group. Whispers rippled through the crowd, and some speculated it might have something to do with Linsey, the head of the Fashion Design Department.
Suddenly, an excited staff member burst into the lobby. “Guess what? Our company is about to start a project with the Burke Group!”
“Can that really be true?” someone asked, eyes wide.
“But…” another voice trailed off as everyone’s gaze shifted back to Jeffery. Overhearing the announcement, he froze, shock flashing across his face. His eyes widened in disbelief as he struggled to process the news.
CR Corporation forming an alliance with the Burke Group?
“How could this be happening? The Burke Group only rose to prominence recently—how could they match Lawson Group’s established stature? Was Collin out of his senses?”
A scoff threatened to escape Jeffery, but he forced himself to maintain a stoic expression as he faced the reception desk. The receptionists, perfectly in sync, avoided looking in his direction.
“I need to speak with the founder,” Jeffery insisted, his voice tense.

“Mr. Lawson, as we mentioned before, our boss is tied up today and cannot meet with you,” one receptionist replied, polite but firm.
Jeffery’s frustration was evident as he gritted his teeth. “It seems you’ve been instructed to dismiss me with the same excuse.”
The receptionist offered a courteous smile. “Mr. Lawson, I assure you, you’re reading too much into this. Our boss really isn’t available.” Suddenly, she brightened. “However, Mr. Wade is currently free in his office. Would you like me to notify him that you’re here?”
Jeffery’s demeanor shifted visibly at the mention of Dustin’s name. He fought to control the turmoil of emotions, determined to maintain a calm exterior. It was clear his dismissive treatment had been orchestrated—likely by Collin or perhaps Dustin himself. In the entire city of Grester, Jeffery had never faced such blatant disregard.
