Chapter 585
585:
Carol stared in disbelief as the clerk walked away unscathed. Around her, the other employees struggled to suppress their chuckles.
“Manager, you just told her to sort inventory, and now she’s gone,” one whispered, barely containing laughter.
“Perfect timing,” another added, smirking.
It dawned on Carol that the staff were deliberately ostracizing her. She slammed her hand on the display case. “Are you all out of your minds? Speaking to me like that is unacceptable!”
The manager allowed the laughter to continue for a moment longer, then adopted a mocking tone. “Miss Lawson, are you unaware of recent events? Just today, Lawson Group had numerous factories shut down, and a comprehensive investigation is underway into your family’s activities. It’s likely your assets will be frozen soon. Regrettably, under these circumstances, we cannot serve you.”
“Ridiculous!” Carol exclaimed. “My name is Carol! How dare you treat me like this? Your store will be closed by tomorrow, mark my words!”
A clerk, fed up with Carol’s arrogance, shot back, “Have some shame! It’s not our store that will shut down, but the Lawson Group, fool.”
Fuming, Carol turned to her bodyguards. “Destroy everything in this store!”
“Yes, Miss Lawson,” they replied, and immediately began overturning display cases and smashing shelves.
As glass shattered and mannequins crashed to the floor, Carol felt a grim satisfaction. She sneered at the manager and clerks. “That’s the price of disrespecting me!”
But they remained calm, unflinching. The manager picked up the phone. “Hello, police? We’re experiencing vandalism.”
Carol rushed forward. “Please, don’t call the police!”

The manager stepped aside, and the clerks formed a silent barrier. “Miss Lawson, making a scene? The police can handle that too once they arrive.”
A short time later, Carol found herself in a holding room at the station.
“Carol, your brother is here,” an officer called from the doorway.
Her face brightened. She stood as Jeffery entered, but froze when she saw the storm in his eyes.
“Jeffery! You’ve finally come to save me!” she cried, relief turning to alarm as his expression darkened.
Her heart pounded as the bold façade she’d maintained began to crumble.
“Carol…” Jeffery’s voice was tight, his words trembling with emotion. “What were you thinking?”
Tears welled in Carol’s eyes as she stammered, “It was a mistake, I swear!”
