Chapter 472 The Company Under The Company
Julian’s POV
“Politeness was never your strength.”
“It is not my hobby either.”
Marcus made a note.
“How hard?”
“Hard enough that Halcyon cannot feed Vesper. Partners get nervous. Banks get careful. Buyers remember they have reputations they actually want to keep. I want the money chain to snap. I want him checking accounts at three in the morning and finding doors that used to open for him.”
“That will take more than one pretty afternoon.”
“Then start tonight. I did not ask you for a calendar. I asked you for damage.”
He wrote something down.
“There will be blowback.”
“I am counting on it. I want him to feel it in his chest. I want him to understand that a clean shop window means nothing if the cellar floods. He put my wife in a car meant for me. I am not answering that with a meeting request.”
Marcus looked at the Halcyon page again.
“If this spills into the open, it does not only hurt him. Restricted parts. Sanctioned fuel. Fake invoices. That draws eyes we do not own.”
“I am not putting it on the news.” I stood and walked to the window. “I am starving it. Quiet where we can be quiet. Legal where we can be legal. Pressure where he cannot point without pointing at himself. He built Vesper to look like a gentleman. I am going after the thing he cannot admit exists. If he wants to cry, he can cry in private. That is the only place left for a man who sells dirty work under a clean name.”
“And Noah?”
“Noah gets nothing.” The words came out flat. “He had his chance. He brought me a warning and kept the rest like a child hiding a broken vase. I will not hand him a map of his father’s real company so he can run home and play good son again. Blood made him loyal. That is his problem. My problem is my wife and my son still breathing.”
Marcus shut the folder.
“I’ll start with the banks. Then the shipping names. Then the people who signed the fake consulting work. If one of them wants a way out, we give them one in exchange for the money trail.”
“Do it. And if they hesitate, remind them what happens to people who stay loyal to a man who uses his own child as a messenger.”
Marcus stayed seated a second longer.
“Julian.”
“What.”
“This is the kind of hit a man like Elliot answers with blood, not a strongly worded letter.”
I thought of Katia upstairs. Of Aiden’s book on the night table. Of rain on a road that should have been ordinary. Of Noah sitting in that chair with his mouth shut, calling silence love.
“Then he should have thought of that before he put my pregnant wife in a seat he meant for me.” I turned back from the window. “If he answers with blood, he will find I have more of it to spend than he does. I have been polite long enough to look like a target. That ends now.”
Marcus stood.
“I’ll have the first pressure points by morning.”
“I want names, not poetry. I want accounts that stop moving. I want suppliers who suddenly cannot remember why they liked him. I want Vesper looking rich on paper and poor in the only place that matters.”
“You always do.”
“And Marcus.”
He paused at the door.
“If Elliot so much as drives past my house, I want to know before his car finishes the street. This is not only money. This is the warning he sent through Noah. Watch my back. Fine. He can watch his company die.”
Marcus nodded and left.
I sat alone with Halcyon North Holdings staring up from the desk like a bruise that had finally found a name. The company under the company. The place Elliot hid the work he could never claim.
I picked up the phone and called the first bank myself.
If he wanted a war, he could have it where it hurt. Not in the papers. In the money that kept his new name standing. I wanted him awake tonight. I wanted him checking ledgers. I wanted him to realize the son he called spineless had not been the real problem.
I was.
And I was done waiting for a confession that might never come. Elliot had made the first move on a wet road. I was going to answer it in the only language he respected.
I was going to take the thing that fed him, and I was going to make sure he could not scream while it happened.
