Alice gently closed her eyes and lightly placed her fingers on Eric’s wrist.
Her touch was unbelievably soft–almost like one of those marshmallows that melt on your tongue when you’re a kid.
The second her fingers brushed his skin, it felt like a jolt shot through his chest.
He wanted to ignore it, to push the feeling away, but it just clung tighter.
No matter what, he couldn’t shake that strange reaction.
Meanwhile, Alice’s expression grew more serious,
Her eyebrows were knit tightly, and there was clear worry in her eyes.
His heartbeat was racing way too fast.
She wondered if maybe the leftover toxins in his body were acting up again and putting pressure on his heart.
But wait that didn’t quite make sense.

Alice cleared her throat a few times, trying to lighten the mood.

The chess tournament was happening on this day.
Matches were scheduled from morning till evening, followed by a business dinner later on.

Because of that, Alice and her group needed to show up early and were likely going to be there until late.
Since Eric held an important position, and Gary was eager to get on his good side, Eric was allowed to skip straight to the finals.

But no one predicted that on the very night they got married. Eric would wake up.
In just over a month, Alice had gone from a nobody to the highly respected Mrs. Nolan.

Linda took a deep breath and pushed her emotions down.
Then, she smiled sweetly and tried to speak.
Eric didn’t even look at her. He simply turned and walked into the private lounge.
Privacy was a big deal here, so even Linda couldn’t follow him inside.
She wanted to stop him, but it was already too late.
“Alice, is it funny?”
Linda had tried to keep her cool, but the smirk on Alice’s face made her snap.
For a second, she really wanted to kill her.
Alice had been calmly watching everything unfold
Now that she heard Linda’s angry voice, she smiled even more.
“Obviously, I’m laughing. This is entertaining–can’t you see that?”
