Eric’s expression turned grim.
Then came Alice’s firm voice.
“It’s not that complicated.”
Eric frowned.
It wasn’t until a moment later that he realized she was talking about the full–scale restructuring of Nolan Group.

Alice went on.
“If the Nolan Group’s trouble ends up affecting my business, it’ll be a real headache.
She was the type who hated trouble more than anything.
After years of seclusion in the mountains, she had seen enough of the fickle nature of human
affection.
Human nature is never constant.
The employees loyal to Ruby now weren’t guaranteed to stay
that way

“It won’t affect you.”
Eric’s voice was blunt and cold..
It was almost like… he was angry.
Alice gave him a puzzled look.
His face remained unreadable, betraying no emotion at all.

Men really are hard to understand.
Ah, they’re so annoying!
When they arrived at Nolan Tower and got out of the car, they saw people from the Spencer family.
Alice hadn’t paid them much attention at first. It was only when Daniel nudged her that she finally looked over.
Damon and Linda were standing in front of the Nolan Tower, speaking to the reporters.
As Alice got closer, their voices became audible.
“Did you come along with Mr. Hawkin today?”
Halsey was someone with significant influence, so he hardly ever appeared in public.
Once word got out that he’d be coming to Nolan Group for a review, reporters had been waiting since early morning.
Since Halsey was getting older and no longer suited for interviews, his students, Damon and Linda, had stepped in to handle them for him.
Linda smiled.
“Yes, Mr. Hawkin thinks very highly of my brother Damon. He practically takes him everywhere these days.”
A reporter added, “Mr. Damon really is impressive.”
Just then, a reporter standing at the back suddenly shouted,
“Mr. Damon, we heard the department being reviewed today is under your brother–in–law’s management. Are you going to help out?”
Damon lifted his gaze and saw Eric and Alice standing nearby.
His expression turned grim, and the warmth in his tone instantly vanished.
“My mentor takes his academic work very seriously. He would never show favoritism to anyone just because of me . ”
He gave a mocking chuckle as he looked at Alice.
“If someone lacks the skill yet still tries to force some half–hearted designs on Mr. Hawkin, he won’t go easy on them, and I certainly wouldn’t let that tarnish his reputation.”

The reporters began to sense something was off and started glancing behind them.
Sure enough, Alice stood there looking utterly crestfallen.”
They instantly swarmed her.
“Ms. Spencer, after being reunited with your family, is it true you don’t get along with your brothers?”
That question… is beyond ridiculous.
Alice almost laughed out loud.
Damon and Linda’s faces turned even darker.
The reporters pressed on, “Ms. Spencer, can you answer the question?”
Alice slowly turned her gaze back to the reporter who had asked.
“That’s a great question. The answer is written all over their faces.”
Every reporter turned around.
Caught off guard, Damon and Linda hadn’t yet wiped the expressions off their faces.
Their grim expressions and barely concealed disgust were instantly caught on camera.
By the time they realized what had happened, Alice had already slipped away with Eric while the reporters‘ attention was elsewhere.
They wanted to go after Alice and confront her. But in reality, they had no grounds for it.
After all, it was true that they had failed to control their own expressions.
They had no choice but to swallow their frustration.
Some of the reporters began whispering to each other, excitedly scheming to turn it into a scandal piece about the juicy drama of a high–society family feud.
A story like this had to come with pictures .
But Damon acted quickly.
“One million. I’ll buy all the photos you’ve taken.”
The reporters hesitated.

One million?
That kind of money was life–changing. It could practically buy them financial independence
Only five reporters had reacted quickly enough to capture Damon and Linda’s expressions
on camera
In other words, five million would make the problem go away.
As they all hesistated, one reporter suddenly spoke.
“There are two of you.
The others quickly caught on. “That’s right. Each of you should give us five million each. Give us the money, and we’ll delete the pictures”
Damon gritted his teeth.
He specialized in heritage painting, and over the years had relied almost entirely on the Spencer family’s wealth to fund his work.
Although he had landed a job as an instructor at the National Fine Arts Institute, the pay was meager.
It wasn’t nearly enough to cover his lifestyle.
Paying the reporters ten million would essentially wipe out his savings.
But if he didn’t… the results would be disastrous.
He looked at the reporters
Every reporter had that look–hungry for the scoop or the payout.
It was simple: either give them a headline worth printing, or pay up–two million each.
Damon drew a deep breath, gritting his teeth. “Don’t
push your luck.”
