Though he was alone, he held off over a dozen attackers by himself, keeping every one of them from getting near Eric.
He was, without question, an expert.
Alice’s curiosity was piqued.
“What kind of combat skills does Daniel use?”
Eric’s voice was soft, yet it somehow cut through the clatter of combat and reached her clearly.
“He’s self–taught.”
Alice was speechless.
Alright then. She’d pretend she didn’t ask.
Daniel made quick work of the fight, subduing every one of them.
Alice walked over with her light tone. “Looks like I overestimated them.”
Daniel stood guard by her side, still alert and watchful over the attackers sprawled on the ground.
“You all came here a bit too full of yourselves, didn’t you?”
She crouched beside one of the bodyguards, catching the flash of defiance in his
eyes.
Without warning, she pulled out a needle and jabbed it into the man’s neck.
He dropped to the floor, completely paralyzed from the neck down.
Realizing he couldn’t move, the man started cursing her in a foreign language.
Alice narrowed her eyes. “A foreigner, huh?”
The man no longer bothered to hide it. He barked in a foreign language, “Kill me! ”
Alice smiled coldly. “Daniel, search them . ”
Daniel got to work immediately.

Soon, he found something tucked inside one of their jackets – a small, old book.
He paused, slightly confused.

If they were here to steal something, why settle for just a book? And not even a valuable one -it looked so worn it might crumble with a breath.
“Thieves who don’t know how to steal?
“Mrs. Nolan, take a look at this.”
At this point, Daniel viewed Alice through the most flattering lens imaginable. In his mind, she was second to none.
She took the book, pausing with genuine surprise.
It was an old medical book, The Herbarium .
A legendary manual among those who practiced medicine.
It wasn’t just a collection of prescriptions–it detailed countless rare herbs unknown to modern markets.
In short, it was like a medical encyclopedia from another world.
She’d heard of it the very first day she began studying under her mentor.
But wasn’t this book supposed to belong to her mentor?
Why was it in their hands?
“You went to Ventus Mountain?”
That was where she and her mentor had once lived in seclusion.
Daniel kicked one of the guards hard. “Didn’t you hear her? She asked you a question- speak!”
The man sneered. “Do what you want. I’m not saying anything.‘
This time, he didn’t speak in a foreign language.
Alice drew another conclusión.
You’re clearly no stranger here. That sentence alone gives you away.
She stood up. “Daniel , take him outside. Get answers . I want to know exactly why they were

Daniel nodded, grabbed the leader by the collar, and dragged him out.
The rest of the intruders were rounded up by the estate’s security and hauled off.
Just then, Jack stepped out of the house.

He’d heard the commotion outside, too, but Julius had insisted on letting it play out–he wanted to see what Alice was really capable of.
Now, Jack walked out with an apologetic smile drawn across his face.
“Apologies, Mr. Nolan, Mrs. Nolan. I was busy inside just now.”
Feeling how fake that sounded, he let out a couple of awkward coughs to fill the silence.
“Actually, those guys? We let them in on purpose.”
Alice gave a sharp laugh. “Then I guess I should be thanking you?”
Jack blinked.
She waved the tattered book in her hand. “See this? I can use it.”
From where he stood, Jack couldn’t even tell what book it was, so he shrugged. “Whatever works for you.”
Alice nodded. “Get that land deed to me as soon as you can.”
Jack, now genuinely curious, asked, “What are you planning to use the land for, Mrs. Nolan?”
She replied coolly, “Does it matter? Can you give me full technical support either way?”
-Jack thought about how the land was right behind the hospital. If they could work together, it
could be a win–win situation.
“Of course, Mrs. Nolan. I’m at your service. You’ll have full access to the hospital’s resources anytime.”
Had he known what that land/would become in the future, he would’ve thanked himself a thousand times for agreeing now.
“Good.” Alice smiled faintly. “And about Mr. Fern–unless he’s dying, don’t call me again.” Jack’s face flushed with awkwardness.

They hadn’t exactly handled her arrival with grace–ambushing her at the garage entrance had been a bit much.
And still, she’d saved Julius without complaint. He was grateful beyond words.
So now, no matter what she asked, he’d do it.

Alice pointed toward Daniel outside.
