Boston was feeling a bit annoyed.
“Gary, you used to hate drinking.”
“Do you think I have a choice?”
Gary gave a bitter smile. “Turns out, if you want to make connections, you better know how to hold your liquor.”
Just then, Charlie had come home as well. He quickly stepped forward to help Gary sit down on the couch.
Scott had arrived earlier. Seeing the three of them gathered in the living room, he looked surprised.

“I came back today to find Linda. There’s something I need her help with.”

“I want to meet with Byron, the president of Riverview University. I’m sure she can make it happen.”
Gary couldn’t help laughing.
“That’s not happening.”
“Gary, what’s that supposed to mean? You just don’t want to see me succeed, do you?”
Boston was starting to lose his temper.
“I’ll be honest. This role is really important to me, and Byron has a lot of sway in the matter.”
He was confident that once Byron put in a word for him, he’d get the role.
Gary just smiled bitterly again.
“No way. She won’t help you.”

With a dismissive wave, Charlie gently tugged him back onto the couch.
“Previously, Gary and I had also wanted Linda to introduce us to Les.

Charlie’s smile twisted into something even more bitter as he explained.
“She didn’t exactly say no. She simply claimed she didn’t know anyone from the Reese family.
“At first, we thought maybe she didn’t realize who Les really was.
“But later, we overheard her having a conversation with him.
“Boston, you should give up on that idea.”
But Boston still couldn’t believe it.
“Linda’s not that kind of person.”
All these years, Linda had been their little princess.
They had always indulged her, doing whatever they could to make her happy.
Together with their parents, they’d tried their best to keep her safe from every challenge and hardship the world threw her way.
In returned, Linda had always defended them.

Charlie went to the fridge , pulled out two bottles of mineral water, and handed one to Gary.
Moments after handing over the water, he asked softly, “Gary, do you think… we were wrong?”
No response came from Gary. He was fast asleep, cradling the bottle like something precious.
Charlie let out a sigh and walked over to the window.
Outside, Boston’s car had already pulled away.

As the headlights disappeared into the distance, the villa fell back into darkness.
No matter how long he stared, Charlie couldn’t see through the darkness.

He tossed the water aside and lit a cigarette,

He looked like he was genuinely going over every detail in his mind.

He probably couldn’t think of the key point, so he had no choice but to ask, intending to follow up with further discussion after getting an answer.
Alice mentally reviewed her memory from the night before.
