Mr. Walker still remembered the first time he saw April. She was wearing a long black dress, her small face so pale it was almost bloodless. She looked so tragically beautiful, both pitiful and lovely.
Mr. Walker was smitten at first sight.
Later, he used his connections with his old classmate and his official position to frequently appear in April’s life.

“If it’s yours, I’ll treasure it even more,” Mr. Walker said in a placating tone, pinching her cheek.
April shifted to sit in his lap, and they playfully teased each other for a while longer. “Has Bennett contacted you at all since the Christmas?” Mr. Walker asked suddenly, his arms still around April.
“At the last reunion, I tried to put in a good word for your precious daughter by saying a few things against his girlfriend. He gave me the cold shoulder after that and hasn’t contacted me since.”
April let out a resentful huff.
“If he doesn’t contact you, you find an excuse to contact him. Bennett’s in the military; see if you can get any internal information out of him. You were his ex-girlfriend’s mentor He’s always respected you over the years.”
Mr. Walker continued to coax her, his arms wrapped around her.
“Mentor? What kind of mentor am I? Yvonne’s death was indirectly my fault,” April said, her eyes darkening as she laughed at herself.
Yvonne had once been her most promising student, and April had felt guilty about her death for years.
Mr. Walker, however, was completely unconcerned. He held April and said dismissively,
“You can’t blame yourself for that. It was that ¶ittle brat’s own fault for looking for trouble Instead of beings. a proper police officer, she had to go and become an undercover agent. She was practically asking for it.
“Still, she had some skill, completely fooling that idiot Colin. If you hadn’t noticed something was wrong, who knows how much trouble she would have caused for
us.”
April leaned against Mr. Walker without a word, her memory suddenly flashing back several years.
Back then Colin was Mr. Walker’s right-hand man, and the Gonzalez

transportation business, had been handling Mr. Walkers smuggling and trafficking operations
One day, Colin had invited Mr. Walker for drinks at a private club.
Since Colin was bringing his new girlfriend, it was inconvenient for Mr. Walker to bring Mrs. Walker, so he took April along instead.
As they approached the private room, April saw the girl nestled in Colin’s arms—it was her star student, Yvonne.
