Bennett led Yvonne to sit beside Mr. Thompson Sr.

With the patriarch present, their table was naturally the main VIP table.

Seated there, besides the Thompsons, were the Scott family elders and two other distinguished figures the Thompsons had specially invited to witness the marriage.

Bennett and Yvonne were the only ones from the younger generation at the VIP table, making them stand out.

Yvonne greeted them all with grace and impeccable manners.

“Bennett’s wife is so young and beautiful,” Mrs. Scott remarked with a smile, looking at Yvonne.

It sounded like a compliment, but if one thought deeper, the implication was that being young and beautiful was all Yvonne had to offer.

Although Yvonne was a famous actress, which seemed glamorous, to the old aristocratic families of Istra, an actress was little more than a performer—hardly someone to be taken seriously.

“And you’ve taken such good care of yourself, Mrs. Scott. You look so youthful,” Yvonne replied with a sweet smile, her bright eyes sparkling with innocence.

Mrs. Scott had praised her for being young and beautiful; Yvonne only praised Mrs. Scott for being young, subtly implying she wasn’t beautiful.

Everyone at the table was sharp enough to understand the subtext.

Mrs. Scott’s face tightened, but since Yvonne hadn’t said anything explicit, she couldn’t lash out. She could only force a smile and say, “The young lady has quite a silver tongue p>

“You as well,” Yvonne chirped back, still blinking her innocent eyes.

Looking at her, Mrs. Scott felt her anger rise.

Bennett, sitting beside Yvonne, remained silent through the exchange, watching as Yvonne cornered Mrs. Scott with a few simple words.

He pressed his lips together to hide a smile, then picked up a candy from the table. With slow, deliberate movements of his long fingers, he unwrapped it and offered the pink candy to Yvonne.

“No, I’ll get fat,” Yvonne said instinctively.

“It’s wedding candy. For good luck,” Bennett said with a smile.

Yvonne raised an eyebrow but accepted it, eating the candy to humor him.

“The Thompson family is celebrating two happy occasions this year, with both Noah and Bennett married. You two should hurry up and give the old man a great grandson,” Mr. Staley, sitting across from them, teased good-naturedly.

Everyone at the table was astute enough to avoid any mention of Noah’s recent divorce.

“Noah and Cynthia just got married. They’ll want to enjoy their time as a couple first. No rush for children,” Mrs. Scott chimed in with a laugh.

It was another double-edged comment, implying that Bennett and Yvonne had been married for a while without having any children.

Yvonne couldn’t be bothered to respond this time. After all, Mrs. Scott was the bride’s mother, and making a scene wouldn’t look good.

His simple sentence left Mrs. Scott’s face stiff once again.

Yvonne was only in her early twenties, so she truly didn’t need to rush Cynthia, however, was already in her early thirties. If she waited much longer, she would be considered a high-risk pregnancy.

daughter by putting Yvonne down, but she was losing the verbabbattle. If she kept provoking them, Mr. Thompson, who was not known for his patience, might intervene.

Mrs. Scott took a sip of the juice and plastered a smile back on her face.

Mr. and Mrs. Scott were, indeed, incredibly adaptable.
