Chapter 260
Chapter 260:
“Liar!” Silas slammed his hand on the desk, making me flinch. “You think you can bluff me? You’re nothing, Adella. Just a vessel for a bloodline you can’t even use p>
Panic surged through me, cold and sharp. I fumbled for my phone in my pocket, fingers closing around it. If I could just hit the emergency dial—
The air shifted.
Before I could pull the device free, Silas moved with the unnatural speed of a desperate Alpha. He snatched the phone from my hand, his grip crushing my wrist, and hurled it onto the high, dust-coated shelf behind the desk.
“No!” I gasped, reaching for it, but it was hopelessly out of reach.
“Enough games,” Silas snarled, his face inches from mine. The scent of him—sour sweat and rot—was suffocating.
“He’s here,” Maeve hissed from the doorway, her face draining of color. “Volkov’s SUV just pulled up to the service gate p>
“Get her to the studio,” Silas commanded.

He seized my upper arm, his fingers digging into my flesh like iron clamps. I was no longer family. I was inventory.
“Let me go!” I shouted, driving the heels of my boots into the threadbare carpet.
He dragged me toward the French doors and threw them open to the storm. The wind hit me like a physical blow, carrying the cold spray of the ocean. He hauled me out onto the wet gravel, and the rain soaked through my clothes instantly.
I stumbled, my mind flashing back to a memory I had buried years ago—Silas at my parents’ funeral, standing at the back of the crowd, his face unreadable. I was fourteen, newly orphaned, reaching out for any hand that would hold mine. He had looked at me, then looked away. Turned and walked to his car without a single word.
That was the last time I had seen him before today.
Family, he had called us. But family didn’t abandon a child to wolves.
“You can’t do this!” I screamed, my voice tearing raw in my throat as we stumbled across the dark lawn. “You’re selling me to a Rogue to pay your debts! You’re a monster p>
Silas stopped abruptly. He spun around, his face twisted with humiliation, and his hand lashed out.
The crack of the slap snapped my head to the side, the force of it rattling my teeth. My cheek burned, but the shock that followed was colder than the rain. Silas—the cousin who had once taught me to skip stones on the beach—had just struck me.
“Shut up,” he panted, his eyes wild. “You do not speak to your Alpha that way p>
I stared at him, silence ringing in my ears. He wasn’t an Alpha. He was a coward.
He seized my arm again and dragged me the final few yards to the stone building perched at the edge of the cliffs—my mother’s old art studio. He fumbled with a heavy iron key, shoved the oak door open, and hurled me inside.
I stumbled and fell onto the cold wooden floor. The room was pitch black, smelling of turpentine, old canvas, and long abandonment.
