Chapter 66
Chapter 66:
Katherine swatted my hand away as if I were a nagging fly. “So? The King doesn’t care about the runts of the litter. He was probably just annoyed she died on his shoes p>
“He carried her out!” I roared, my voice cracking. “I saw his eyes, Katherine. They weren’t human. They weren’t even Alpha. They were something else entirely.” I paced the room, dragging a hand through my hair and pulling at the roots. “You attacked a Lycan’s Fated Mate. I know that look. I’ve heard the stories. He’s going to slaughter us all p>
Katherine laughed — a cold, tinkling sound that made my blood run cold. “Don’t be dramatic. A Lycan King mated to a broken, wolfless thing like Adella? Impossible. She’s a parasite. I just proved she’s too weak to survive in our world p>
“She is under his protection p>
“And we have an alliance!” Katherine stepped closer, her eyes narrowing into slits. “The Parrish Pack supplies seventy percent of your armaments, Braydon. Without my father, the Hyde Pack is defenseless against the Rogues come winter. You will not lecture me on politics because of some dead-weight ex-fiancée p>
The arrogance. The sheer, blinding stupidity.

Katherine flinched, her mask slipping for a fraction of a second before the sneer returned. “Clean that up before you leave. And fix your tie. You look pathetic p>
She walked out, her heels clicking a rhythm of victory on the hardwood. I stood there, chest heaving, surrounded by broken glass. She was wrong. I could feel it in the marrow of my bones. The alliance wouldn’t save us. Nothing would.
I had to see Adella. I had to fix this.
The drive to the Blackwood Pack territory was a blur of speed and panic. As soon as I crossed the border, the air changed — growing heavy and thick with a scent of ozone and raw power that pressed down on my lungs like a physical weight.

Dallas Marshall’s aura. Suffocating.
I abandoned my car at the entrance of the Medical Center and sprinted into the lobby. It didn’t look like a hospital; it looked like a fortress of glass and obsidian, the air sharp with antiseptic and lethal efficiency.
I rushed the reception desk. A young man with a buzzcut and eyes like flint looked up from his screen.
“I need to see Adella Everett,” I demanded, trying to summon my Alpha command — but it withered in this place. “I am Braydon Hyde, future Alpha of the Hyde Pack. She is… she was my fiancée p>
The receptionist didn’t blink. He typed my name into the system.
A harsh red light flashed on the console, reflecting in his eyes. He stopped typing and looked at me — not with fear, not with respect, but with the expression one reserves for a stain on the carpet.
“Access denied,” he said flatly.
“You don’t understand.” I slammed my hand on the counter. “I need to speak with King Marshall p>
