Chapter 510
Before he could retaliate, my phone vibrated violently in my pocket. I pulled it out, my heart dropping into my stomach when I saw Azalea’s name. I answered immediately.
“Adella!” Azalea’s voice was a hysterical, panicked shriek that tore through the speaker. “Adella, it’s Dallas! The LVAD is failing… Dr. Vance says his Lycan heart is giving out… He’s… he’s turning blue!”
The world stopped spinning. The air was sucked from my lungs. Deep within my chest, the severed but stubbornly lingering mate-bond let out a deafening, agonizing wail. My Mate was dying.
“I’m coming,” I choked out, dropping the phone and spinning toward the door.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Anson snarled.
“Dallas is dying!” I screamed, grabbing the door handle.
Suddenly, a massive weight slammed into my back. Anson, moving with terrifying Alpha speed despite his injury, grabbed my wrist with his good hand and violently spun me around, pinning me hard against the wall. His face was inches from mine, his chest heaving, his eyes wild.
“You promised you would stay!” he roared. “He doesn’t want you!”
“Let me go!” I shrieked, thrashing wildly against his grip, my wolfless strength utterly useless against him. “He is my Mate!”
“He is your ex-Mate!” Anson bellowed, his fingers digging bruisingly into my flesh.
Fresh blood bloomed across the pristine white gauze on Anson’s forearm, the crimson stain spreading rapidly as his fingers dug into my flesh. His face was inches from mine, his eyes wild, his chest heaving.

I stopped thrashing. The frantic panic in my veins instantly froze into something sharp and lethal. I looked up into Anson’s glowing, possessive gold eyes, my voice dropping to a dead, emotionless whisper.
“Let. Me. Go.” I stared right through him. “Or I swear on my parents’ graves, I will not only let the Everett legacy burn, I will personally hand the matches to your enemies. I will make it my life’s mission to see you ruined, and I will hate you until my last breath.”
The sheer, icy absolute of my vow struck him like a physical blow. The predatory dominance in his eyes flickered, replaced by a flash of genuine shock. He realized I wasn’t bluffing. I would burn the world down to get to my Mate.
Slowly, his grip loosened. The moment his fingers parted, I shoved past him and bolted out the heavy oak door, my feet pounding against the sterile clinic tiles.
I burst through the exit doors into the freezing night air of the parking lot. The harsh, buzzing glare of a lone streetlight illuminated the empty asphalt. I was sprinting toward my car when my phone vibrated violently in my hand. I answered it on the first ring, my lungs burning. “Azalea? I’m on my way—”
