Chapter 241:
The door swung open. Cornelia stepped into the room, holding a master key.
Cornelia closed the door behind her and smoothly engaged the heavy soundproof lock. Her face was a mask of absolute, freezing fury.
Harper dropped the lamp and ran toward her mother, tears of rage streaming down her face.
“Mom! Did you hear him?” Harper sobbed hysterically. “He called her Madam! My inheritance is gone! She’s going to take everything!”
Cornelia did not offer a hug.
She raised her hand and slapped Harper across the face with terrifying force.

The crack echoed in the soundproof room. Harper spun and collapsed onto the plush carpet, clutching her stinging cheek, tasting blood in her mouth.
“I warned you at the table,” Cornelia hissed, standing over her daughter like an executioner. “Stop acting like a pathetic, emotional child!”
Cornelia pointed a shaking finger at Harper’s face.
“If I hadn’t kicked you,” Cornelia snarled, “Jarrod would be downstairs right now breaking your legs for trying to burn his wife. You are a liability!”
“What am I supposed to do?” Harper screamed back, crying on the floor. “Just let that trash replace us?”
Cornelia took a deep breath, forcing her heart rate down. She walked over to the velvet sofa and sat down, crossing her legs. The anger in her eyes shifted into something far darker and more calculated.
“Tripping maids and throwing tantrums is how children fight,” Cornelia said, her voice dropping to a chilling, dead calm. “We are fighting for survival.”
Cornelia looked at the wall, her expression twisting with disgust.
“The rest of this family is completely useless,” Cornelia stated coldly. “It is up to us to protect our share of the trust.”
Cornelia leaned forward, locking her cold eyes onto Harper.
“I have already initiated the final protocol,” Cornelia whispered. “In a few days, Caroline Thompson will have an accident. A regrettable one. And if her meddlesome father keeps asking questions about his daughter’s new life, he’ll meet with a similar misfortune. The man should have stayed retired and kept his mouth shut.”
The words hung in the air, heavy and lethal.
Harper stopped crying. Her breath hitched. She had seen Mr. Thompson at the wedding contract signing — a weak, balding man who could barely look Jarrod in the eye. But Cornelia had clearly done her research. The threat was real.
“You mean…” Harper stammered, her eyes wide with a sick, twisted excitement. “You’ve made a call?”
Cornelia smiled. It was a terrifying, soulless expression.
“The offshore accounts have cleared,” Cornelia confirmed. “The best team in Washington is currently tracking her. But until they strike, you will smile, you will be quiet, and you will act perfectly defeated. Do not give Jarrod a single reason to look in our direction.”
The humiliation in Harper’s chest vanished, replaced by a dark, euphoric rush of adrenaline. She wiped the blood from her lip and slowly stood up.
“I won’t mess it up, Mom,” Harper promised, her eyes shining with malice.
Cornelia stood up and smoothed her silk skirt.
