Chapter 315:
The cold, untouchable authority vanished from his face. It was replaced instantly by a raw, terrifying panic that widened his eyes.
Without a single word of explanation to his bewildered lieutenants, Jarrod turned and bolted toward the tent exit. He barked a lethal order into his radio: “Orion command is transferred to Captain. Execute Nightingale emergency protocol. I’m off-base.”
His massive frame moved with explosive, desperate speed that defied his size. He ignored the deafening sounds of distant artillery fire. His singular, consuming thought was focused entirely on crossing the ocean to reach her.
Back in the States, K.C. immediately initiated a strict lockdown on Trauma Bay Alpha, vowing to keep her untouched until the Colonel arrived.
Just five hours later, after a supersonic flight that crossed half the globe and violated several international airspace agreements, Jarrod’s heavy combat boots slammed against the linoleum. He left a trail of muddy rainwater from the base’s storm down the pristine medical corridor.

K.C. had enforced a brutal lockdown, preventing the medical staff from moving her to a ward while she violently fought off anyone who approached. He approached Trauma Bay Alpha. He could hear Caroline’s ragged, terrified breathing echoing through the open double doors.
He stepped into the doorway. His massive frame completely blocked the exit. His dark, furious eyes swept the small room.
He saw Captain Hayes and Corporal Riley standing nervously near the wall. He saw Dr. Reed holding a cup of liquid medication near the bed.
Then his gaze locked onto the gurney. Caroline was huddled in the center, shivering violently. Her skin was a deadly shade of pale.
A terrifying, murderous aura radiated from Jarrod. The temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees instantly.
Hayes snapped to a rigid salute. He stammered, making a desperate attempt to report the security situation to the Colonel.
Jarrod ignored him completely. He walked straight toward the gurney, his eyes fixed only on his trembling wife.
Dr. Reed stepped directly in his path. She stated firmly that the patient was in severe hypothermic shock and delirious, and any sudden movement could severely worsen her condition.
Jarrod didn’t even slow down. He used his left hand to effortlessly shove the senior medical officer out of his way, keeping his injured right arm pinned tightly against his ribs beneath his jacket.
He reached the edge of the bed. Caroline flinched hard. Her glazed eyes failed to recognize him through the thick fever haze.
She raised her bruised arm. She attempted to strike him with the same bone-jarring chop she had used on the medic earlier.
Jarrod caught her wrist mid-air with lightning speed. His left grip was firm but incredibly gentle, completely absorbing the kinetic force of the blow.
He leaned in close, ignoring the mud and blood on her clothes. He spoke her name in a low, rumbling voice filled with raw emotion.
Caroline froze. The familiar, deep cadence of his voice pierced straight through her trained dissociation protocol.
Her rigid muscles slowly unlocked. She let out a broken, agonizing sob, collapsing forward against his solid chest.
