Chapter 1118
[ 580 words ]
“Uh…” Luella went silent for a few seconds before asking tentatively, “Did Shanley cheat on you or something?”
What other reason could she possibly have to mercilessly execute her own man?
“Luella.” Juniper leaned against Shanley’s chest, her voice breaking as she spoke into the phone. “I found my mom and dad.”
“AHHH—!” Luella unleashed a deafening, high-pitched scream, leaping right off her couch. “What?! Say that again!!!”
“The man we treated at Sanctum Holdings… that’s my dad,” Juniper said, her tone eerily calm now. “And the woman locked next to him is my mom.”
Luella fell dead silent. The call timer kept ticking, but she needed a minute to process this. Talk about a blind squirrel finding a nut. Juniper had actually stumbled onto her biological parents?
“That bastard at Sanctum Holdings has been obsessed with genetic modification, trying to collect viable test subjects.” A cold, hollow laugh escaped Juniper’s lips. “And you know what? The ultimate test subject he’s looking for is probably me.”
Finding out she was the prize of her own investigation was certainly a plot twist.
“So you’re going to fake a partnership with Corvus to rescue your parents?” Luella asked.
“Yes,” Juniper replied. “Just do exactly as I say. Leave the rest to me.”
“Got it.” Luella swallowed hard. She hesitated for a few seconds before asking, “Hey, who’s more important to you? That fox Shanley, or your family?”
Hearing this, Shanley lowered his eyes, his gaze fixed on Juniper’s face.
Juniper bit her lip and answered slowly, “My family, of course.”
Shanley’s heart suddenly went cold. But before the disappointment could settle, he heard her finish the thought.
“Because Shanley *is* my family.”
Shanley let out a long breath. With those words, he would gladly hand his life over to her.
“Good to know,” Luella chuckled awkwardly. “I mean, the guy is a little older, but he treats you right. Don’t actually get him killed, okay?”
“Don’t worry, he’s not going to die,” Juniper said softly, a faint smirk touching her lips.

Sanctum Holdings.
Corvus sat in front of the monitors, intently watching Celine’s reactions.
Five hours had passed. She had been subjected to the nightmares countless times. She lay sprawled on the bed, drenched in cold sweat, her face as pale as a sheet of paper.
“Stubborn little thing,” Corvus
muttered, rolling his prayer beads, a sinister chill in his eyes. “I supposez the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Those two hardheaded fools bred an equally hardheaded daughter. A tough nut to crack.” Cóntent
“Cut the intervals,” he ordered. “Give her a dose every hour.”
“Yes, sir.”
As the guard left, Gino hurried into the room. “Sir, Specter from Subterra Vanguard just caved.”
Corvus looked at him, his aged eyes narrowing.
“Subterra Vanguard said they agree to your previous terms for the partnership,” Gino reported.
“Why the sudden change of heart?”
Corvus found it odd. “Specter isn’t exactly the compromising type. The memory of her arrogant attitude
during their last meeting was still
fresh in his mind.
“Word on the Street is that Sigma
Network retaliated and stole a
massive chunk of their market.
Subterra Vanguard lost billions.”

They were
lained going to have to deal with Sigma
Network sooner or later anyway.
Specter probably figures she can do you a favor while she’s at it.”
Eliminate a rival and get paid handsomely for it. Killing two birds with one stone. Everyone said Specter loved money more than life itself, and it seemed the rumors were true.
“Tell them my condition,” Corvus drawled lazily. “I want the life of the Sigma Network leader. Once Sigma Network is wiped out, our project is halfway to the finish line.”
