Harold lay down on the opposite side and switched off the lamp. Tiny specks of light filtered through the gap in the curtains, making the silence in the room feel profound.

With him lying beside her, Lorelei didn’t dare move a muscle. She barely even dared to breathe too heavily.

He could feel his heart hammering faster and faster. As a doctor, it was almost

laughable that he couldn’t regulate his own physical response.
