Chapter 1508
[ 614 words ]
“Hmph.” Melvin slammed down the thermos of nutritional soup he was holding and stormed toward the door in a huff. “Talking to you is no fun at all.”
Juniper was speechless.
What a baby.
At the door.
He happened to bump into Lorelei, who was just returning from Eleanor’s room. He immediately stood up straight and greeted her respectfully, “Lorelei.”
“Yeah.” Lorelei offered a faint smile and asked softly, “What’s wrong? Where are you rushing off to?”
“Oh, my heart was just brutally wounded by a heartless man, so I’m stepping out for some fresh air.” Melvin shoved his hands in his pockets, lifting his chin arrogantly. “It’s your husband. His tongue is way too toxic.”
“?”
Lorelei was so caught off guard she barely knew how to respond, managing a polite smile. “Chest pains? You should probably get that checked out.”
“This illness of mine can’t be treated by any ordinary doctor,” Melvin said with a cool smile. “There’s only one person who can cure me, and I haven’t managed to book an appointment with her yet.”
Speaking of which.
An image of a vibrant, youthful figure popped into Melvin’s head.
She was always calling him ‘sir, sir, sir.’
If someone didn’t know better, they’d think he was an eighty-year-old grandpa. Heh.
“You should go in, Lorelei,” Melvin said. “Feed him some soup and shut Harold’s mouth for good.”
Lorelei was completely bewildered.
Was there really someone out there more skilled than Juniper, the legendary Dr. Nocturne?
The door pushed open.
Juniper was examining Harold’s vitals. Seeing Lorelei enter, she raised a brow. “Lorelei.”
“Juniper.”
Lorelei stepped forward, her gaze unbelievably tender. “How is it? Is it serious?”
“He’ll live.”
Juniper stood up straight and said calmly, “Mostly superficial wounds, but his lower back took a pretty hard hit.”
His back?
Lorelei instinctively looked at Harold, a trace of confusion crossing her pale face. “What’s wrong with my back?”
Harold instantly furrowed his brows, his voice deepening defensively. “It’s perfectly fine!”
What kind of nonsense was she spouting?
Did she not want her own brother-in-law to win his wife back?
“Don’t get agitated,” Juniper said, her red lips curving into a sly smile. “It’s just a severe sprain For the near future, you need to avoid any strenuous… movements.”
“Understood.” Lorelei nodded. “Thank you, Juniper.”
“Don’t mention it.”
Juniper returned to Shanley’s side, naturally slipping her hand into his. She turned to Lorelei. “We’re going to check on Eleanor. We’ll drop by again later.”
“Okay.”
Lorelei walked them to the door. After watching them leave, she hesitated to go back inside.
She didn’t know how to face Harold, spacing out as she stared at the tips of her shoes for a long time.
It wasn’t until Harold called her name.
She finally remembered that he hadn’t eaten anything in hours because of the surgery.
Gathering her courage, Lorelei walked back into the room.
As soon as she entered, she met the man’s weak yet intensely deep eyes. He
stared at her as if trying to see right through her soul.
“Are you hungry?”
Lorelei pursed her lips, stepped forward, and poured a bowl of soup before sitting beside him. “I asked
the doctor you’re allowed to have
this nutrient soup.”

“I’ll feed you.”
Lorelei leaned forward, gently blowing on the warm liquid before carefully bringing the spoon to his lips.
Harold opened his mouth, swallowed a couple of bites, and asked hoarsely, “How is Grandma?”
“Her vitals are completely stable.”
Lorelei continued feeding him. “The doctor said if you hadn’t spent last few years researching and.
conquering the surgical complications ahead of time,
Grandma might not have made it off
the operating table.”
“Harold, thank you.”
Lorelei thanked him from the bottom of her heart. “Grandma means everything to
me. I can’t even imagine what I’d do if I lost her.”
“You’d cry your eyes out.” Harold gave a weak smirk, leaning in slightly, his voice raspy. “You’ve been a crybaby since you were little.”
