Chapter 1557
[ 734 words ]
Kian’s breath hitched. His mouth fell slightly open, but he couldn’t formulate a single word of rebuttal.
He had always assumed Janet was just a naive little fool who could be easily won over with a few sweet words.
He hadn’t expected her to see right through him all along.
He had truly underestimated her.
“I’m not interested in you. No matter what you do, I won’t accept it.”
Janet continued, “Also, the rumor about us dating—you’re the one who started it, aren’t you?”
“I’m not an idiot, and Juniper and the others certainly aren’t either.”
“Out of respect for the fact that we’re peers in the same program, I’ve always tried to save you some face.” Janet reiterated, “A person should have some self-awareness. Don’t push your luck when someone’s trying to be polite.”
“What did you just say?”
Kian’s expression suddenly turned ice-cold. The affectionate warmth that had previously filled his eyes vanished, replaced by a dark, intimidating storm.
“You know exactly what I said.”
Janet clenched her fists. She was incredibly nervous inside but fought hard to maintain her composure. “From now on, we go our separate ways. It’s best if you stop bothering me.”
“This is my final warning to you.” Janet straightened her clothes and stated bluntly, “Try it again next time, and you’ll see what happens.”
Dropping the harsh ultimatum.
Janet turned and walked away at a brisk pace.
Kian stood rooted to the spot, his face dark and sullen under the night sky.
Janet Wilcox.
A woman who insisted on doing things the hard way.
So, she was really going to tear up all pleasantries with him?
Fine.
Then she shouldn’t blame him for not holding back.
The restroom was still quite a distance from the sunrise viewing deck.
Janet used her phone’s flashlight, jogging with quick, staccato steps.
As fierce as she had acted moments ago, her heart was now pounding in pure panic.
She regretted being so impulsive.
Kian’s expression had looked horrifying just now-like a completely different person from his usual gentle and refined facade.
She didn’t doubt for a second that if she had run a little slower, he might have slapped her across the face.
At that thought.
A lingering shiver of fear ran down Janet’s spine.
Just as her imagination began running wild, her arm was suddenly grabbed. “Ah-“
Janet let out a terrified scream.
“Don’t be scared, it’s me.”
Melvin turned on his phone’s flashlight, illuminating his handsome features. “Mr. Steele?”
Seeing clearly who it was, Janet’s tightly strung nerves instantly
relaxed and her eyes reddened “Didn’t you have things to do? I thought you couldn’t make it.”
“I finished handling it.” Melvin glanced toward the darkness nearby and asked in a low voice. “Why are you out here alone? Didn’t tell you not to wander off by yourself?”
Janet furrowed her brows.
She had originally planned to go to the restroom with some girls from her class.
She didn’t know what Kian had told them, but the other girls must have left early without her.
“Let’s go.”
Seeing her hesitate, Melvin didn’t press the issue, simply leading her toward the viewing deck.
Looking at Melvin’s broad back, the fear in Janet’s heart vanished completely.
A short while later.
The two returned to the viewing deck, where Professor Zuniga called Melvin over for a chat.
Janet slipped back into the crowd.
“Janet, Kian didn’t come back with you?” a classmate asked curiously. “He said he was waiting for you.”
“No.”
Janet forced a small smile and said, “I don’t really have anything to do with him. He doesn’t need to wait for me.”
Classmate: “Huh?”
Janet: “Exactly.”
At 5:30 in the morning.
A faint glimmer of light appeared on the horizon, signaling the rising sun.
“I’m exhausted.” Tanya rested her head on Janet’s shoulder, yawning non-stop.
“Mr. Steele is back. Aren’t you going to go get on his radar?” the classmate next to them teased.
“Forget it.”
Tanya pulled her jacket tighter and huffed, “He already has someone in his heart. Why would I throw myself at him?”
“It’s just a man. There are plenty of others.”
“True.” The classmate nodded thoughtfully. “Ah. The sun is coming up.’
Immediately after.
The students swarmed toward the front, pulling out their phones to take pictures.
Janet followed closely behind, but someone bumped hard into her body, nearly knocking her over.
Turning her head, she found Kian glaring at her coldly.
He wasn’t even pretending anymore.
Janet was already petite, and after being shoved by him, she failed to squeeze to
the front.
Just as she was struggling on her
tiptoes, raising her phone to snap a picture a pair of large hands
suddenly gripped the backs of
knees.
The next second, she was lifted completely into the air.
