Chapter 1585
[ 613 words ]
“They said they’d slap me into next week if I did.”
“Saskia, Janet has plenty of people willing to go to bat for her. Aside from you, she’s got Juniper.”
At the mention of Juniper, Saskia’s expression finally softened.
She might have worried that anyone else would blindy side with their own blood.
But she never doubted for a second that Juniper would have Janet’s back.
With Juniper standing firmly behind Janet, Saskia felt truly reassured.
“What are your plans for the future?” Saskia felt her head throbbing, her temples pounding as she rubbed them and reminded him, “Mr. Steele, you’re nearly thirty. Janet is only nineteen…”
“Ahem.”
Finally reaching this stage, Melvin cleared his throat and spoke in a low voice. “I will align my life with Janet’s studies and routines.”
“Whether she wants to get her master’s, her doctorate, or even study abroad, I agree entirely and will support her unconditionally.”
“We’re dating with the intention of getting married, and you are welcome to evaluate me the entire time.”
“If I ever fail your test, you can have Janet leave me immediately.”
“Getting a master’s or a doctorate could take seven or eight years.”
Catching the main issue, Saskia asked hoarsely, “Mr. Steele, are you willing to wait that long?”
“Of course.”
Melvin’s lips curled up as he looked at Janet, a bittersweet smile playing on his face. “Before I met her, I fully intended on dying alone.”
“I figured when I got old, I’d just adopt some kid from the extended family to look after me.”
The rest of the family: ?
Janet: “?”
Saskia pursed her lips, nearly failing to hold back a laugh.
It was a good thing Shanley wasn’t around to hear that, otherwise, when Juniper had a baby, he would definitely put Melvin on the top of his danger watch-list.
“Get up first, you two.” Saskia shook her head helplessly, looking at them. “You’re both adults now. You can make your own decisions about your love lives.”
“Janet likes you, and I don’t want to break her heart.”
Saskia stared at Melvin, speaking with heavy earnestness. “I only have one condition. If the day ever comes when you don’t love her anymore, do not hit her or verbally abuse her. Just send her back to me.”
“Mom…”
Janet threw herself into her mother’s arms, holding her tightly.
“Since you were little, I’ve supported whatever you wanted to do.” Saskia gently patted her daughter’s face, comforting her softly lanet, you’ve always had a good head on your e shoulders. I trust that you’re making the right choice.”
Besides, Mr. Steele wasn’t a bad person.
If her daughter could find happiness, there was nothing better.
“Saskia, I promise I won’t let you down.”
Melvin stood up, bowing deeply with utter humility. “As long as I’m around, no one will ever lay a finger on her.”
“Good.”
Saskia replied, unable to stop herself from wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes.
Now, there was one more person in the world who would love and protect Janet.
If Janet’s father was watching from above, he would be so proud.
Meanwhile.
Juniper was pacing back and forth in the living room, practically
vibrating with anticipation “el né
Why havent heard my brother screaming yet?”
“Sit down and take a breath.” Shanley caught her hand and pulled ber onto the sela “Your cunt cafes mothe
so much about Janet. She’s
definitely going to heavily interrogate your brother.”
Interrogate?
Her daughter was being stolen right out from under her nose—Saskia should be jumping up and throwing punches by now.
Exactly.
Why weren’t there punches yet? She wanted a front-row seat to the drama.
Just as she was puzzling over it.
The door swung open, and Melvin walked in holding Janet’s hand.
“?”
Juniper instantly jumped to her feet. After scanning Melvin from head to toe, all her excitement vanished.
“How did you make it back in one piece?!”
