Chapter 1592
[ 627 words ]
“Celine is coming out.”
At those words, all attention snapped toward the doors.
The doctors wheeled Celine out. She was buried under thick blankets and wearing an oxygen mask.
Though she was conscious and her eyes were open, she was so pale and fragile she looked as if she might shatter at any moment.
“Celine…”
Warren leaned down, gently pulling her into his embrace. He kissed her cheek, his heart breaking as his voice trembled. “I’m so sorry, Celine. I am so, so sorry.”
As he spoke, tears rolled down his face, the guilt threatening to consume him whole. The rest of the family wisely hung back, giving them space.
Celine barely had any strength left. She could only manage a weak flutter of her fingers against his arm.
She forced a smile, her voice barely a whisper. “Is the baby cute?”
“I didn’t look.”
Warren held her hand tightly, looking just as terrible as she did.
Every ounce of his attention was on his wife.
Why would he care about the little brat who almost cost him his world?
“What?”
Celine frowned heavily at his answer.
Seeing her displeasure, Warren pursed his lips and murmured, “He’s healthy. A little plump.”
Plump?
Thinking back to the ultrasound photos, the doctor had mentioned he was wonderfully round, like a little bowling ball.
“I want to see him,” Celine said, a faint smile touching her lips, her voice utterly devoid of energy.
“They took him to be fed.” Warren gently wiped the sweat from her forehead, his tone soft and coaxing. “Let’s get you to your room. You can see him when you’ve rested a bit.”
“But I just want to…” Celine shook her head, desperate to see her baby.
Seeing those pleading eyes, Warren couldn’t bear to say no.
The rest of the family blinked, feeling just as empathetic.
“How about—” Warren was just about to cave.
“Absolutely not.” Juniper appeared seemingly out of nowhere, holding a cup of hot coffee. “You are going to your room to rest. No moving around, no talking.” fo FindNovel.net
Faced with her younger sister’s stern expression and sharp glare, Celine panicked
and shot desperate SOS signals to her parents and siblings.
In perfect unison, everyone looked away. Forget agreeing with Celine-they didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly.
After a few seconds of internal debate, Celine lost her nerve and weakly told Warren, “Let’s go back and rest.”
“Okay.”
Warren cast a quick glance at Juniper before following the nurses to Celine’s room.
Juniper turned around to find the rest of the family staring intensely at her.
“What are you looking at? Don’t you
all have things to do?” Juniper
furrowed her brow, her tone perfectly even. “If you’re supposed to be watching the mother, go watch the mother. If you’re supposed to be watching the baby, go watch the baby.”
“Right, right, right.”
Silas scratched his head, grabbing his wife’s hand. “We’re going to check on Celine. Let’s go, let’s go.”
The two of them looked suitably cowed. Before leaving, they made a point of giving Juniper a wide berth.
“Then we’ll go check on the baby. Get some rest, Juniper!”
The others nervously laughed it off and quickly scuffled down the hall, eventually breaking into a light jog.
Their sister looked completely exhausted and ready to snap like a firecracker. No one wanted to poke the bear.
Celine needed her rest.
The family offered brief words of comfort before filtering out of the room.
Juniper sat on a chair outside the door, waiting in complete silence for five hours.
“Ms. Payne, everything is completely stable now.” The doctor finished the final checks on Celine and offered a
reassuring smile. Please goe
some rest. We’ll take it froget
here.”
“Thank you for your hard work.”
Only after confirming that Celine was officially out of the woods did Juniper finally
stand up, the deep exhaustion evident in her eyes.
Rushing to catch a flight, performing a grueling surgery, and then waiting hours outside the room to ensure the danger had passed.
