Chapter 73

The next morning, Gabriel left early for the office. He had an important meeting he couldn’t reschedule. Isla was still asleep when he quietly stepped out of the house.
A few hours later, the buzzing sound of a phone woke her up. She stirred, groaning softly, and reached for it with half–open eyes. The name flashing on the screen made her blink wider– Mama.
She quickly answered. But before she could say a word, her mother’s voice filled the line.
Thank God, she finally picked up p>
Isla chuckled sleepily. Her voice was husky from just waking up.
“Good morning to you too, Mother,” she murmured.
“For how long are you going to keep us standing outside your door p>
Isla frowned.
“Wait–us? Who are the ‘us‘ you’re talking about p>
“Well,” her mother replied, “you’re about to find out p>
Isla gasped and jumped out of bed. Sliding her feet into her slippers, she hurried out of the bedroom with the phone still pressed to her ear. She reached the main door, realizing Magdalene wasn’t around, and quickly unlocked it. Check latest chapters at
Standing there was her family.
Her mother, Diana, looked stunning in a soft, knee length beige lace dress, her elegant eyes hidden behind dark sunglasses. Behind her stood Maya, glowing in a baby–pink dress, and then Betty–the troublemaker of the sisters, and the one who looked most like their mother, wore a soft white flowing dress that swept the floor. And she had dark sunglasses on her face.
Isla barely had time to react before Maya pulled her into a hug, followed by Betty. After they stepped inside, Isla closed the door behind them with a click.
They settled into the living room, each taking a seat they liked best.
“How did you even know I was here?” Isla asked.
Diana waved her hand dismissively.
“It turns out my handsome son–in–law thought about me this morning p>
Isla rolled her eyes and smiled.
“So, he told you himself. But he left early for an important meeting. I was going to-
You mean, call me? ” –
interrupted. “Yes, but my sweet son–in–law did that before he left. His call woke
me up.

Then she added, “As for your sisters, they have been with me since yesterday–after all that drama with your mother–in–law. It seems that after everything that woman has done, she still managed to get everyone’s attention p>
Isla sank into a sofa across from her sisters.
“So,” Betty leaned forward, “how is she doing? What exactly happened p>
Before Isla could answer, Diana spoke sharply,
I’ll
tell you what happened–karma. Karma finally caught up with her for all the pain she caused my daughter!
“Mother, ” Isla sighed, “this isn’t something to joke about. It’s more serious than you think. I saw her myself. At first, I thought it was just gossip from the media. But when she came after me–she tried to attack me p>
“ She what?” all three of them said together.
“ Yes,” Isla nodded. “But Gabriel stopped her. He carried her away by himself p>
Silence fell across the room.
Then Isla added softly, “Something didn’t feel right, though. Grandfather didn’t even look surprised or worried. It was like he already knew. That part really bothered me.
Diana’s expression changed. She knew exactly what Isla meant–but she had no intention of letting her daughter dig too deep. The Wyndham family’s secrets ran deep, and Diana had kept some of them for years.
She had even planned to use those secrets to scare Anna into leaving Isla alone. But now, it seemed someone- or something had already done that for her.
So, she quickly changed the subject.
“Anyway, we’re going shopping today. Your husband’s paying ”
Maya and Betty screamed with excitement.
“Shopping! ”
Betty cheered, clapping her hands. She looked absolutely thrilled–she was the kind of woman who believed money was made to be spent, no matter whose money it was.
Isla laughed quietly. If this isn’t the surprise Gabriel mentioned, then what could it be? she wondered, silently in
her mind.
While they talked, Maya wandered into the kitchen. She opened the refrigerator and took out some fruit. Sitting on the stool, she began eating slowly, humming and moaning softly at the sweet taste.
Pregnancy cravings could make anyone act funny.
“Alright,” Isla said, standing. “Let me freshen up. Then we can head out p>
Betty jumped up.

“And after shopping, we should celebrate your new penthousel”
She wrapped Isla in a warm hug.
“Congratulations, Isla. I’m so happy for you p>
Isla smiled and hugged her back
“Thanks, Betty.” Isla responded. And Betty grinned.
“Since we’re spending your husband’s money anyway, we might as well eat in some fancy restaurant. What do you say p>
“Sounds good to me,” Isla said with a smile. “Just let me freshen up first p>
As she walked away, Betty looked around the living room with curiosity, taking in the elegant details.
Suddenly, a loud cry came from the kitchen.
“Mama p>
Diana and Betty rushed in immediately. Maya was doubled over, clutching her stomach.
“My baby!” she screamed.
Diana’s face went pale. She grabbed Maya’s shoulders, steadying her trembling daughter as panic filled the space.
