But before she could say anything, Gabriel’s voice came out low and steady.
“Mother,” he said, his tone edged with restrained fury. “I’ll tell you this once–don’t ever bring up Delphine’s name in front of me or my wife again.”
Anna’s eyes widened in shock, but he continued, his words hard and unflinching.
“I am a happily married man, mother. I love my wife, and I need you to respect that. So, if you’re done talking, you should leave.”
Anna’s eyes widened in disbelief. She had never seen him talking this way. He sounded so cold, and too distant, as if she was nothing important in his life. For a split second, she thought she might have misheard him. But his tone left no doubt.
Before she could form a reply, Isla’s voice broke through. Her voice was soft, but sharp like glass.
“Mother,” Isla began, her tone calm but her words were precise. “Instead of trying so hard to destroy my marriage, maybe you should be more concerned about yours. Because, if you haven’t noticed, it’s already collapsing.”

Gabriel blinked, turning his head slowly toward his wife.

And with that, she turned sharply and stormed away, her heels clicking angrily against the marble floor.

The moment she was gone, silence reigned for a few seconds, then Ben suddenly burst out laughing. Peter followed, his low chuckles turning into open laughter. Their laughter grew so loud that several people from nearby tables turned to stare.
“Gabriel,” Ben said between laughs, clutching his chest, “who is this woman beside you? Because I swear she just made my entire week.”
Gabriel didn’t laugh. He was still staring at Isla, his expression unreadable–a mix of surprise, disbelief, and something else… something mischievous.
“I’m guessing you made that up?” Peter said, still grinning.

Gabriel finally exhaled, leaning back in his seat. “What punishment should I give you tonight, Isla?” he murmured, his voice was low, deep, and dangerous.
