“I will need you to calm down, sir. Please trust me. We will handle this matter.”
Stone’s voice was steady, but there was urgency beneath it. He stood close to Gabriel’s desk, watching him pace the large office tike a restless man that had been provoked.
Gabriel could not sit.
He moved from one end of the office to the other, his long strides were too impatient. His fists clenched, then relaxed, then clenched again. His jaw was tight, his teeth grinding slightly as if he were holding back something dangerous.
The message refused to leave his mind.
Enjoy your win while it lasts. But get ready to lose your newborn. .
Every time the words replayed in his head, his chest tightened painfully. His breath grew heavier. His thoughts flew immediately to Isla. To the triplets. And to the fragile peace they had just found.
Stone watched him closely.
“Sir,” Stone said again, lowering his voice, “this is exactly what they want. They want you distracted. They want you to be angry and afraid.”
Gabriel stopped walking abruptly and turned to face him.”Someone just threatened my children,” Gabriel snapped.”
You want me to stay calm?”
Stone did not flinch. “I want you alive. And I want your family safe. Losing control will not help. Trust me, whoever this person is, they only want you distracted And that is exactly what you’re doing right now.”
Stone continued. “There is no threat in your estate, I can. assure you. No one can get close to your family. So, just calm down and let me look into this.”
Before Gabriel could respond, a soft knock sounded on the door.
Gabriel inhaled slowly and straightened. “Come in.”
Jude stepped inside carefully. “Sir… they’re here.”
Gabriel nodded once. “Alright. Let them in.”
He returned to his chair and sat, though his body remained tense, his fingers gripping the armrest tightly.
Stone stepped closer and lowered his voice even more. “I’ll step out now. For the moment, ignore the message.
Whoever sent it wants your attention.”
Gabriel lifted his eyes and locked them on Stone’s face.
His gaze was cold and dangerous.
“One week,” Gabriel said slowly and clearly. “I’m giving you one week to find that insect and crush him.”Stone nodded sharply. “Understood.”
He turned and left the office.
Almost immediately, the door opened again.
Sarah walked in, holding Desmond’s small hand.
“Uncle Gabriel!” Desmond’s cheerful voice filled the room.
Everything in Gabriel shifted in an instant.
The anger in his eyes softened. The tension in his shoulders loosened. A smile spread across his face as he stood up quickly.
‘There goes my little man,” Gabriel said warmly as he lifted Desmond into his arms.
He spun the boy gently, making him laugh loudly.
Desmond’s laughter echoed in the office, bright and innocent, like it had the power to chase away darkness.
Sarah stood a few steps inside the room, watching them.
A gentle smile rested on her lips. She held her handbag with both hands in front of her. She looked calm, elegant, and composed, though her eyes carried curiosity.
When Gabriel finally placed Desmond back on the floor, he turned to Sarah.
“Congratulations,” she said warmly. “You should have let me see them first. Do you know how I felt when I heard the news?”Gabriel chuckled softly. “Things happened very fast.”
‘He pressed a button on his desk. “Jude, please come and take Desmond around.”
The intercom clicked off.
Moments later, Jude returned. “Come on, Desmond. I’ll show you something ceol.”
“Yay!” Desmond shouted happily.
Without hesitation, he followed Jude out of the office.
Gabriel gestured toward the lounge area. “Come, Sarah.
Let’s talk.”
Sarah nodded and followed him. She sat across from him and placed her bag on the table carefully.
“I hope everything is alright?” she asked.
Gabriel leaned back slightly. “Everything is fine. I just need to talk to you about something important.”
Her posture straightened immediately.
“I’m sorry for calling you here suddenly,” Gabriel continued. “But if it wasn’t important, I wouldn’t have.”
Sarah nodded slowly. “I understand.”
Gabriel paused for a moment, studying her face.
“I need you to be honest with me,” he said. “Did you everLove Desmond’s father?”
The question hit Sarah unexpectedly.
Her expression froze. Her fingers tightened around the edge of her bag on the table. Her heart skipped painfully.
Why now?
Why ask about someone who was gone?
Uriel had been buried in her past. She had worked hard to move on. To protect her son. To protect herself.
She shifted in her seat. “Uriel is dead,” she said carefully.”
Why bring this up?”
“That’s not my question,” Gabriel replied calmly.
Sarah swallowed hard.
“Yes,” she said finally. “I loved him. Until I found out he was a criminal.”
Gabriel leaned back, crossing his arms
“Second question,” he said quietly. “If my brother was not a criminal… and if he was alive… would you try again with him?”
Sarah stared at him. She was more relaxed now. Though, her chest tightened, and her eyes burned slightly.
Why was he doing this?She looked away. “Uriel is dead,” she whispered. “Can we-please let him rest?”
Gabriel’s voice softened. “My brother is not a criminal, Sarah. He made mistakes. He trusted the wrong people.”
Sarah nodded slowly. “I understand. But please… don’t make me talk about him anymore.”
Her voice cracked. And that was enough evidence. Gabriel had his answer.
She still loved Uriel.
After Sarah left, Gabriel returned to his desk.
This time, his focus sharpened. He went through documents carefully, page after page. Someone had stolen from the company. They thought he wouldn’t notice, but they were wrong.
The office door opened again. And Stone walked in.
“Sir,” Stone said, “when exactly did you receive the threat?” Gabriel answered calmly. “During the meeting with the accounts department.”
Stone nodded. “Reschedule the meeting for tomorrow morning. Even if another threat comes, don’t cancel the meeting but continue.”
Gabriel’s eyes darkened.
“You think this is a mind game?”Stone smiled slightly.
“I don’t think so,” he said. “I know so.”
And that smile promised trouble for whoever dared to touch the Wyndham family.
