Chapter 103
Gabriel walked out of the bathroom, and dressed for work, It was Friday morning, and though he had a meeting later that day, he decided to go in late. He wanted to make sure Isla was fine before leaving the house. After what happened the previous night, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that she was still angry with him.
He thought of making her breakfast.
Could he cook? Of course not. But he still wanted to try. Maybe fry some eggs, make coffee, or at least toast bread. Anything to
make her smile again.
He opened his door, and froze.
His heart nearly stopped.
There, on the cold marble floor of the hallway, lay Isla–motionless, pale, and weak.
“Isla?” His voice trembled as the word left his lips. It felt like a question. A desperate question.
In an instant, he dropped to his knees. His heart pounded painfully inside his chest as he lifted her head onto his lap. Her skin was cold, her face too pale for his comfort.
“Isla! Please, open your eyes,” he pleaded, panic thick in his voice. His throat tightened as fear consumed him.
Her lips barely moved. “Gabriel… please… call the doctor p>
The faintness of her voice nearly broke him. But she spoke, that alone gave him hope.
Without wasting a second, Gabriel scooped her up into his arms and carried her to his room. He laid her gently on his bed, brushing a strand of hair from her face. His hands were shaking as he grabbed his phone from the nightstand and dialed.
“Dr. Matt, yes, it’s me. I have an emergency. Please, I need you here right now.” His voice cracked.
He hung up and turned back to Isla, his chest tight with worry. He held her hand in both of his, rubbing slow circles on her skin to keep her warm.
“Love, please stay with me,” he whispered. “Nothing will happen to you. I promise I’ll take care of you this time. Just don’t leave me p>
Her eyelids fluttered slightly, and her fingers moved, just a little, tightening around his hand. That tiny gesture almost brought tears to his eyes.
When his phone buzzed again, he didn’t even check the caller ID. He just answered. “Yes p>
“I’m here, Mr. Wyndham,” came Dr. Matt’s calm voice.
Gabriel didn’t wait. He dropped the phone and pressed a soft kiss to Isla’s forehead before hurrying out. Less than a minute later, he returned with Dr. Matt and Magdalene, who had just arrived for work.
The doctor immediately went to work by checking Isla’s pulse. He checked her temperature, and heartbeat. His expression grew
serious.
“She’s very weak,” he said finally, looking at Gabriel. “It’s obvious she has been under too much stress. It might be physical and emotional. In her condition, she shouldn’t be experiencing either. You must make sure she stays calm, happy, and well- rested. Remember, another life is growing inside her p>
Gabriel still. His mind replayed the doctor’s words: another life. As if he’s just realising that now.
Before he could react, Magdalene gasped softly, her eyes wide with excitement. “Oh my God, Mrs. Wyndham is pregnant p>

The doctor nodded.
Magdalene covered her mouth, smiling with joy. “I knew God would bless this family one day!” she said before hurrying to the kitchen to prepare the soup Dr. Matt requested.
Gabriel stood still beside the bed. He was scared. Really scared. He ran his hands through his hair and began pacing the room, unable to sit still.
Meanwhile, Dr. Matt inserted a drip into Isla’s arm and monitored her condition. He observed her from time to time, making sure that everything was going smoothly.
Two long hours passed before Isla stirred. Her lashes fluttered, and her soft voice whispered, “Dr. Matt p>
The doctor smiled gently. “Yes, my dear. You gave everyone quite a scare p>
Gabriel rushed to her side, relief flooding his face. He took her hand and pressed it to his chest. “Thank God. Isla, you can’t imagine how scared I was. Please don’t ever do that to me again. Thank you for coming back to me p>
His voice trembled with emotion, and Isla felt her throat tighten. He looked so broken and terrified.
She turned to the doctor. “What… what happened to me p>
“Your body is exhausted,” Dr. Matt replied with a gentle calmness. “This is the result of stress. You must start taking care of yourself–not just for your sake, but for the baby’s. No stress, no overthinking. Eat well, rest well, and that’s all that is to it p>
Isla nodded quietly. “Thank you, doctor. I’ll be careful.” Fresh chapters posted on.net
Dr. Matt gave a small nod, then added with a faint smile, “And another thing, at this stage, you’ll need your husband’s support more than ever. You might crave his presence, his comfort. Don’t push him away p>
Isla blinked, her eyes widening slightly in embarrassment. She wasn’t expecting the doctor to speak so openly.
Gabriel, however, understood. His gaze softened as he looked at her, his expression was a silent promise.
Dr. Matt finished packing his equipment and gave Gabriel a firm pat on the shoulder. “Just be gentle with her, Mr. Wyndham.
Don’t be too hard p>
After the doctor left, the room was quiet again. Only the steady sound of Isla’s breathing filled the air.
Gabriel sat beside her and brushed his thumb against her cheek. “I won’t fail you again,” he murmured softly. “You and our baby, you’re my everything now p>
Isla didn’t speak, but a single tear rolled down her cheek. She wasn’t sure if it was from relief or confusion. But she somehow found peace.
As for Gabriel. This was the right time to prove himself to his wife. And just as he was at it. His phone buzzed and the name of ” Diana” lit up.
His mother–in–law was calling. The best person he trusted in his very situation right now.
