Chapter 82
Isla was in a fix, completely cornered by Delphine. She couldn’t defend herself this time. Delphine had used her mistake against her. And she did it in a way that left Isla defenceless. Whatever Delphine was planning was clearly working. Maybe this time, she had truly won.
“Delphine,” Sia said with a little sniff, her tone came out sharp and cold. “Please, let her be. What more could you expect from someone like her p>
The words stung deeply, slicing through Isla’s heart. But she said nothing. She knew if she tried to speak now, it would only turn against her. So she held her tongue, blinked away the tears burning in her eyes, and swallowed the pain.
Delphine didn’t smile, but Isla could tell she was pleased with herself. Her silence was victory enough.
When Delphine and Sia finally walked away, Landon stayed behind. He looked at Isla with concern.
“Are you okay?” he asked softly.
Isla nodded, though her eyes were red and puffy. She bit the inside of her cheek to stop the tears from falling, fighting hard to keep her anger under control.
Just then, the doctors came out of one of the hospital rooms. Everyone turned toward them immediately. Gabriel stepped forward first, his voice tense.
“Doctor Matt, please tell me, how is he doing?” Gabriel asked one of the two senior doctors who had attended to his grandfather.
Everyone waited, holding their breath, afraid of what they might hear.
“He’s still in a coma,” the doctor said, “but we’re hopeful. He’s suffering from hypoglycemia–his blood sugar dropped too low. He’s already receiving treatment, and we expect him to wake within the next twenty–four to forty–eight hours. The good news is, there’s no sign of brain damage. He should make a full recovery p>
Relief washed over Gabriel, and his father exhaled deeply beside him.
“Can we see him now?” John asked,
“I wouldn’t recommend that,” the doctor replied gently. “ As I mentioned, the nurses will take care of him. You can come back to check on him by tomorrow p>
“Everyone can go home now,” the doctor added. “The nurses will keep a close eye on him p>
“Thank you, doctor. Please call me if there’s any change,” Gabriel said. ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ.net
“Of course, Mr. Wyndham. I’ll call and I believe it’ll be good news p>
Gabriel shook hands with both doctors before they left.
As soon as they were gone, John turned to his family. “Now that we know Father is stable, everyone can go home. and rest. Except Sia–she’ll be staying with Anna tonight p>

Sia’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Oh my God,” she said quickly, pressing a hand to her forehead. “I have a terrible headache. I really need to rest p>
Isla shook her head quietly, disappointment filling her chest. If Anna didn’t despise her so much, Isla would have volunteered to stay. But given the situation, there was nothing she could do. She simply stood there in silence, wishing the ground would swallow her pain whole.
“I’ll stay with her. I can do that. After all, I’m family too,” Delphine volunteered.
“No, you can’t. You’re pregnant–and besides, you’re not family yet. But thank you for offering, Delphine p>
Gabriel’s words were definitely not what Delphine expected. She wanted something more, maybe some affection, just like before. But disappointment was all over her face so she quickly looked away, trying to hide her hurt.
“Alright then,” John said, breaking the silence. “The nurses will stay with her. You can all go home now.
One by one, everyone began to leave. Gabriel stepped closer to his father, and the two spoke quietly for a few
minutes.
Isla stood by herself, arms wrapped tightly around her body. The sting from Delphine’s accusations still burned Inside her, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t push it away.
She wasn’t going to forget it easily–only time would tell what she will do. Delphine can do as she pleases for now, let her enjoy her free freedom.
But right now, what troubled her most was Gabriel. Did he believe what Delphine said about her? That question. was all that filled her mind.
And for Alfred Wyndham–the man lying unconscious behind those hospital doors–Isla could only pray for his quick recovery.
