Chapter 84
Gabriel and Isla sat in the car, they were on their way home. Once again, both of them were lost in their own thoughts.
A sudden buzz from Isla’s purse broke the silence. The sound made Gabriel shift slightly, but he soon drifted back into his thoughts.
The weight of the day showed on his face. Stress was clearly eating at him–but there was something deeper too. The image of his grandfather collapsing kept replaying in his mind. It didn’t make sense. Though he was not there. But he could only imagine it.
The doctor said it was due to low blood sugar. Since when? He went for check ups regularly. His health has always been his top priority. The old man had always seemed so strong. The whole thing felt strange.
While Gabriel pieced together the possibilities in his mind, Isla took out her phone and glanced at the message.
It was from Sofie.
“Can I meet with you tomorrow?” came Sofie’s message.
Isla began typing her reply. “Sure. Is something wrong p>
A few seconds later, Sofie replied. “Just need your advice on something important p>
“Alright. I’ll meet you at Wyndham Heights tomorrow morning.” Isla texted her back and when Sofie didn’t respond again, Isla slipped her phone back into her purse, assuming the message had been received. The car fell silent once more, with only the faint hum of the engine filling the space between them.
Isla turned her head and found Gabriel already watching her. His eyes were softer now, but there was something, something more–a quiet tenderness that caught her off guard. Without a word, he reached for her hand and pulled her closer in a gentle way.
His gaze didn’t leave her face. He studied her carefully, watching the faint rise and fall of her chest as she breathed, as if he needed to reassure himself that she was really there, right beside him.
Isla’s heart skipped. For hours, she had thought he was angry because of Delphine’s accusations. But now, seeing the exhaustion behind his eyes, she realized it wasn’t anger. It was just stress and the weight of everything pressing down on him.
When the car pulled up before the penthouse, the headlights washed across the tall glass doors. Thomas, their driver, quickly stepped out and hurried to open the door, but Gabriel was already ahead of him. He stepped out and turned back immediately, offering his hand to Isla.
She took it, and he helped her out of the car. His hand stayed longer on her, firm and protective.
Thomas watched them quietly as they walked toward the entrance. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips. Maybe, he thought, things were finally getting better between them.
Inside, the reception was warmly lit. The doorman straightened immediately. “ Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Wyndham,” he greeted politely.
“Good evening.” Gabriel replied. Isla nodded with a small smile before they continued toward the elevators.

The concierge behind the counter also greeted them, his expression brightening at the sight of them together. Usually, Gabriel was used to the private elevator leading straight to their penthouse, but tonight, maybe he had a change of mind.
When the elevator arrived, the doors slid open with a soft chime. They stepped inside, and the doors closed behind them, sealing them in gentle silence. The floor beneath them began to move, carrying them higher.
Isla stood near the glass panel, the city lights flickering behind her like scattered stars. She turned slightly, meeting his gaze again. That single act of her pulled something inside of him. This text is hosted at.net
Gabriel moved closer. His hands rose slowly, bracing on either side of the glass behind her, his body closing her in. The space between them grew smaller until she could feel the warmth of his breath on her face.
Her breath hitched. “Gabriel…” she whispered, her voice trembling slightly.
He said nothing. His eyes moved over her face, then on her lips, and then his mouth met hers. The kiss was gentle, it was filled with unspoken emotion. The kiss was the kind that carried everything words couldn’t say. It was also filled with longing and relief.
Isla’s fingers lifted, trembling slightly as they wrapped around his neck. She leaned into him, her body seeking more of his warmth as her boobs pressed firmly on his chest.
He groaned and finally drew back, his forehead rested against hers, both of them breathing heavily. His voice came out raw and uncensored.
“Tonight,” he murmured, his thumb brushing her cheek, “I want to make love to you the way I should have all along p>
Isla’s eyes glistened as her lips parted, her breath trembling. “Gabriel p>
His gaze softened again, and he smiled faintly, though his voice stayed low and steady. “ And you, my wife, ” he Esaid, his tone filled with emotion, “you will take everything I give to you.
Isla’s heart fluttered as she lifted her face toward him, closing the space between them once more. She pressed her lips to his, kissing him with everything in her.
And he welcomed her tongue inside his mouth.
