“The person who attacked me,” Isla began quietly, her voice shaking, “was Anna Wyndham.”
The weight of her words felt so heavy that even the faint hum of the hospital machines seemed to fade away.
She repeated them again, louder this time, her blue eyes were hard and cold. “She said that over her dead body would she let me give birth to my baby.”
The silence that followed was deafening.
Gabriel staggered backward like he’d been struck with something hard. His hand went straight to his forehead. His fingers pressed against his temple, while his whole body trembled.
Charles quickly reached out, steadying him by the arm before he lost balance.

“Anna… attacked you?”

“Tell me,” he said, his voice calmer now but trembling underneath, “she really did this to you?”

“Yes, Father,” Isla replied softly. “She did. She took my baby away. She dragged me into a storeroom right after I left Grandfather’s study. She attacked me with a dangerous device.”
The horror on everyone’s faces deepened.
“Oh God…” Diana gasped, her hands flying to her mouth.
The entire room fell into a terrible stillness. The air was thick and suffocating. Gabriel’s tears began to fall again. This time, he couldn’t help it.

“That woman,” Diana said suddenly, her voice sharp with fury, “I’m going to deal with her myself. I’ve had enough of her evil-”
“No, you can’t,” Isla interrupted, her voice weak, but firm.
John stood frozen, his hands pressed against his eyes, rubbing them as though trying to block out the world. His mind had gone somewhere far. He knew that everything that happened could be avoided. But yet they underestimated Anna.
Gabriel stepped closer to Isla again, his heart breaking all over. He bent down, his lips brushing the corner of her mouth gently.
“I’m so sorry,” he whispered. “I should’ve known you weren’t safe in that house. I should never have left you alone when I was supposed to protect you.”
His words tore through everyone in the room.
“Like I said before,” Isla replied softly, tears filling her eyes again, “it’s not your fault. Stop blaming yourself.”
Gabriel nodded slowly, a faint, broken smile curving his lips-the kind of smile that spoke out unsaid words.
After a long silence, Isla spoke again. “Can I have my phone?”
Gabriel blinked. “It’s broken,” he said. “I’ll have Stone get another one right now. You can use mine for now if you want to call someone.”
Isla shook her head. “No,” she said firmly. “Give my phone to Stone. Tell him to fix it immediately. And make sure he protects it with his life.”
Her tone startled everyone.
Gabriel frowned, stepping closer. “Why?” he asked. “Why do you want to protect a broken phone?”
His voice had changed. He sounded more firm, just like his usual self.
The room shifted. Everyone’s posture straightened. They felt like more things were coming. Things they had no
idea of.
Isla took a deep breath. “Because,” she said slowly, “if I’m going to fight and expose Anna’s atrocities, I’ll need that phone to do it.”
Gasps rippled across the room.
“Do you have evidence of her attack?” John asked cautiously, his voice low with emotions.
“I might have that,” Isla said. “And even something more, Something that can nail her completely, and send
her to prison once and for all.”
Gabriel’s head snapped toward her, his voice rising with emotion. “You want to send my mother to jail?” he snapped. “No, Isla, let me handle this. I know the best way to deal with her. Trust me, I’ll punish her for what she’s done. The child she killed wasn’t just your baby. It was ours.”
Isla flinched at his tone-not because it scared her, but because it broke her heart. She knew he was torn between his pain and the bitter truth about his mother.
Still, her voice didn’t waver. “If you must know,” she said slowly, “Anna is not who you think she is. Fix my phone and bring it to me, Gabriel. Then you’ll understand everything.”
John’s head snapped toward her sharply. His voice was cold now, and filled with warning. “You can’t say anything, Isla. Don’t even dare.”
The tension in the room exploded instantly.
“Father,” Isla said firmly, “I’m sorry. But I’m going to do this my way now. You and Grandfather have both done things your way. Look where that got us. It’s time I do things the right way.”
Charles and Diana exchanged a confused look, their expressions mirroring Gabriel’s. None of them understood what was happening-but the weight of John’s reaction said enough.
Gabriel’s voice was rough when he spoke. “What’s going on? What are you both hiding?”

She looked straight at John. “You can stop me if you want. Or better still, you can support me. But I won’t let Anna walk free again. She has to pay for every single thing she’s done.”
Gabriel was speechless now. His mind was spinning, his patience unraveling. “Can someone tell me exactly what’s going on before I lose it?” he demanded.
Diana and Charles looked equally lost. They exchanged another glance, their brows furrowed in confusion and fear.
Isla turned her head toward John, her voice sharp and clear. “Should I tell them?” she asked. “Or will you do it instead?”
