“Three years ago, she dumped her unwanted fiancé on me. Now, after coming
back to the country, she’s taken over my husband too-is this her idea of loyalty?” Aurora’s voice dripped with sarcasm. “Honestly, I don’t think I can take it.”
“You-”
“I need to rest now. Please leave,” Aurora said, turning her head away, unwilling to spare another word.
Fiona stormed out, but paused at the door to add, “Your grandmother misses you. Once you’re feeling better, you should go see her.”
No matter how much bitterness Aurora held in her heart, the mention of her grandmother’s name washed it all away.
She stared up at the ceiling, unable to stop the tears from slipping down her cheeks.

Yet because of Eleanor’s tears, they came to accuse her.
Her own child’s life meant less to them than Eleanor’s sobs.
By the time Aurora finally managed to rein in her emotions, her eyes were sore and swollen.
She called her grandmother, keeping her voice as steady as she could. She didn’t mention the miscarriage-just said she’d been away on a business trip and would visit as soon as she got home.
Her grandmother was delighted, fussing over her with affection, reminding her to rest and take care. Every word was filled with warmth and love for Aurora.
For a brief moment, Aurora’s battered heart found solace; a gentle warmth seeped into the cracks.
Aurora spent two weeks in the hospital, and Daniel was there with her every day. He took care of everything himself, down to the smallest detail.
Even Ms. Temple, the nurse assigned to Aurora, couldn’t help but remark, “Mr. Chambers is truly a rare, devoted man.”
He’d never been seen with other women; even his assistant was a man. Among the wealthy heirs and playboys in their circle, Daniel’s restraint and loyalty stood out.

Ms. Temple had finished reviewing the test reports. The relaxed look on her face faded, replaced by seriousness.
“Is something wrong?” Aurora’s heart tightened.
Ms. Temple placed the report gently beside Aurora. “You suffered severe abdominal trauma, and being caught in that storm for so long didn’t help. I’m afraid… it may be very difficult for you to have children in the future.”
Aurora stared at the paper, recognizing every word, yet together they seemed utterly foreign.
Her voice trembled. “You mean… I can never be a mother again?”
Ms. Temple sighed with sympathy. “You’re still young. If you take care of yourself, there may still be a chance.”
Aurora’s tears fell, splattering the report and spreading little blotches across the paper.
“Mrs. Chambers,” Ms. Temple said gently, concern in her voice.
“I’d like some time alone.” Aurora took the report and walked to the door. “Please, I’d appreciate it if you kept this between us for now. Don’t tell my husband yet.”
Ms. Temple hesitated. Daniel had hired her specifically to look after Aurora, and withholding news like this felt like a serious breach of duty.
Aurora tightened her grip on the report. “I’ll tell him myself. When I’m ready.” Alright.” Ms. Temple finally agreed.
She understood all too well: the more money a family had, the more they cared about heirs. With Aurora’s health compromised, her value to the Chambers family would plummet.
That, she thought, was probably why Aurora wanted to keep it quiet a while longer.
Back in her room, Aurora carefully folded the report and tucked it away. She closed her eyes, and memories of struggling in the pouring rain came rushing back.
The rain had been so cold.
For a while, she truly thought she might die.
On the day she was discharged, Daniel couldn’t make it due to a last-minute
emergency, so he sent his assistant to drive her home.
Aurora changed into fresh clothes and, unable to wait any longer, went straight to the Quinn family home.
She missed her grandmother terribly.
