Chapter 347
The tension in one corner of the room was palpable.
Meanwhile, the other side seemed perfectly at ease.
Daniel turned to Louis, lowering his voice. “So, what do you think of Judy?”
A faint smile played at the corner of Louis’s lips. “She’s exactly as I remember
He paused, then added, “Still as beautiful.”
Nora almost wondered if she’d misheard.
Was Louis actually interested in Judy?
Daniel let out a silent sigh of relief. This was exactly the outcome he’d hoped for.
He glanced at Nora and said quietly, “You’ve been single for three years since Payne. It’s rare for you to actually like someone. If Judy feels the same, maybe you two should give it a shot.”
Louis lifted his phone. “Then could you help me get her number?”
Nora hesitated, then finally asked, “Are you sure you want to get involved with Judy?”
She thought about the Winters family dynamics, and Donna’s temper, then tried to dissuade him. “Honestly, you could take your time. There’s no need to rush into things with Judy.”
Louis met her gaze and smiled. “I have to get married sooner or later. I’d rather choose someone I know, at least a little.”
“But you only met her briefly in college. You don’t really know her.”
“All right, Aurora, I think Mr. Winters knows what he’s doing,” Daniel interrupted, a touch of amusement in his voice.
He clearly approved of the idea.
As a housekeeper passed by, Daniel gave a discreet instruction. Moments later, Judy appeared.
“You wanted to see me?” she asked, doing her best not to look in Louis’s direction.
Louis didn’t hesitate. He pulled out his phone. “Hey, old friend. Mind if we exchange numbers?” Thɪs chapter is updated by
Judy blinked, caught off guard. It took her a moment to process what was happening. She fumbled for her phone, and the two quickly exchanged contact information.
Louis saved her number. “Next time, dinner’s on me.”
Judy stammered, “Uh, sure.”
She felt dazed, as if this was all happening to someone else, not her.
Louis’s phone rang. He excused himself and left.
Unable to contain her curiosity, Judy sidled up to Daniel and whispered, “What does he mean by this?”
Daniel didn’t hide anything from her. He explained that it was a sort of arranged date.
Judy’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You mean… he’s interested in me?”
Daniel patted her shoulder. “Judy, you’re just as good as he is. You don’t have to settle for anything less.”
He could tell Judy liked Louis.
Shell-shocked, Judy wandered away in a daze.
Nora felt a cold knot form in her chest. Her voice was icy as she said,
“Congratulations. You got exactly what you wanted.”
One sister marrying Hans, another set up with Louis. How efficient.
Daniel didn’t seem bothered. “This was his choice, not mine.”
Nora remembered what Louis had said that morning, but bit back her retort. “So, can we leave now?” she asked.
“Let’s go.”
They had barely started toward the door when a commotion broke out by the entrance.
The crowd parted, and Nora caught sight of Eleanor.
She was dressed in an ivory gown, looking almost ethereal as she walked toward them.
“Nora.”
Eleanor’s eyes were red, her fingers clenching her skirt so tightly her knuckles turned white.
To be forced to beg Nora for forgiveness was a humiliation she could barely swallow-but she had no other choice.
“Nora
Her voice trembled as she called out again.
Nora regarded her coolly, annoyance clear in her tone. “What do you want?”
Seeing Eleanor only reminded her of the recording Donna had erased. The memory made her stomach turn.
Then, in front of everyone, Eleanor dropped to her knees.
She lifted her pale face, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Nora, I’m sorry for what I did. Can you forgive me?”
