Chapter 350
Eleanor approached Daniel with a desperate glimmer of hope flickering in her eyes, teetering on the edge of obsession. “Please, just this once-I’m begging you. Help me find out who that woman is.”
She bit her lip, her voice trembling. “He even had a room set aside for her at the old manor.”
Daniel’s brow furrowed. The old manor? A room?
He pieced it together instantly, but had no intention of sharing what he knew.
“You’re overthinking this. That room is probably just a guest room.”
Eleanor shook her head, hair swaying. “No, it’s not. When I went there, the room was under renovation, and everything-from the wallpaper to the curtains-was clearly tailored to a woman’s taste.”
Hans had no siblings, and Monica would never set foot in the old place. That room could only be for someone Hans couldn’t let go of.
“Dan-”
“Enough.” Daniel’s voice cut through her plea, sharp and final. “I warned you not to marry Hans, didn’t I? But you were determined—wouldn’t listen to anyone. And now, you’re spiraling into paranoia. When does it end?”
It was the first time he’d spoken to Eleanor so harshly, his words cold and biting.
“I Eleanor faltered, lost for words.
These were all her choices.
But at the root of it all-was Nora.
If Nora hadn’t entered the Quinn family pretending to be Aurora, constantly opposing her, Eleanor would never have married Hans out of spite.
Now, her life was a mess.
Of course, she didn’t dare voice these resentments to Daniel. These days, Daniel was firmly on Nora’s side. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ.net
He pinched the bridge of his nose, his tone softening. “Eleanor, even if you divorce Hans, you’ll always be my sister. I’ll look out for you.”
He gave her one last chance, but Eleanor refused without a second thought.
“I’m not getting a divorce.” Her jaw clenched, voice thick with bitterness. “I won’t let her win.”
She had to know who that woman was.
Daniel’s disappointment was palpable. “Suit yourself.”
He had nothing more to say.
Eleanor saw his anger, and looked up at him with tear-bright, pleading eyes. “Can
I stay here tonight?”
She hadn’t finished what Donna had asked of her. She couldn’t leave now.
“Hans is already on his way to pick you up. If you won’t divorce, then go home with him.”
Under the lamplight, Daniel’s face was icy and remote.
Despair washed over Eleanor, mingling with disappointment.
Daniel’s loyalty now belonged completely to Nora.
Covering her eyes with one hand, she tried to hide the jealousy burning in them.
“Not even one night?” she whispered.
Daniel’s reply was the same: “No.”
Ten minutes later, Hans arrived.
He strode in, car keys jingling in his fist, grabbed Eleanor by the wrist, and yanked
her to her feet-showing no hint of gentleness.
“Let’s go.”
Eleanor winced in pain. “Hans, let go, you’re hurting me.”
Hans kept walking, ignoring her protest.
Daniel frowned and stepped forward, blocking him. “Hans, you’re hurting her.”
Hans gave a dismissive snort. “What, you worried about her now?” Eleanor called out, her voice small and wounded. “Dan
Daniel met her gaze, then turned to Hans. “She’s your wife, not your enemy.” Hans didn’t bother to hide his disdain. “This is how I’ve always treated her.”
Everyone in the room knew how this marriage came to be.
The two men locked eyes, stubbornness reflected in both.
“She’s staying here tonight,” Daniel declared, standing protectively by Eleanor.
He stepped closer, gripping Hans’s wrist, determined to pry Eleanor’s hand free from Hans’s grasp.
