Aurora didn’t move. She leaned her head against the car window, eyes closed, silently wishing they would reach the hospital soon.
Suddenly, someone grabbed her arm, pulling her straight into Daniel’s arms.
It was summer, and her clothes were thin-she felt the heat radiating from him the instant their bodies touched.
She noticed his shirt was already damp with sweat.
Thinking of Monica, irritation flared in her chest. She slapped his shoulder.
“Let go.”
But the next moment, her whole body went rigid.
Her pale face flushed, equal parts embarrassed and angry.
She knew better than anyone what that change in his body meant.
Daniel had kept his distance for a while now, but the woman in his arms was drenched from the rain, her white dress clinging to every curve. With a glance down, he could see the delicate lines of her body, the way her femininity shone through, even in this disheveled state.
He reached for the privacy switch, raising the divider between them and the driver, and before she could protest, his lips were on hers-soft, insistent.
Aurora struggled, her words biting. “Daniel, we’re already divorced.”
“We’re still in the cooling-off period.”
“There are only three days left.”
“I told you, even if there’s only one day left, you’re still Mrs. Chambers.”
Even with just a single day remaining, she was still his wife.
Aurora trembled, her nails digging into his arm, teeth sunk into her lip to keep herself from making a sound.
The driver pulled into the driveway at North Manor, cheeks burning, and hurried away without looking back.
Aurora was a mess.
Daniel called for a blanket and swept her up into his arms, carrying her inside.
She didn’t dare struggle, terrified the blanket would slip and someone would see her like this.
Once inside the master bedroom, Daniel-who’d been holding himself back the whole way-finally let go.
He was impatient, almost rough.
Their clothes ended up in a tangled heap on the floor.
Aurora’s eyes were red at the corners; she tried to resist, but the softest sounds escaped her lips anyway.
“We can’t keep doing this,” she whispered.
She’d told him they were through-so why were they tangled up like this again?
It was wrong.
And yet, she couldn’t muster the strength to push him away.
In the end, all she could do was hold on to him with trembling arms, lost in the storm.
When passion peaked, their fingers interlaced, fitting together perfectly.
Afterwards, they showered and collapsed onto the soft bed. Daniel, completely content, ran his hand gently down her smooth back, his touch full of tenderness.
He pressed a kiss to her lips. “Aurora, let’s not get divorced. Please?”

Aurora’s eyes filled with tears. She’d seen them together, hand in hand, looking every bit the loving couple.
“She will be, soon enough.”
Once the divorce was final, Monica would have every right to claim that title.
Daniel’s expression chilled. “I told you, what happened with my grandmother was
a misunderstanding. As for Monica, we were just childhood friends. You don’t even like me—why do you care?”
Aurora said nothing.
Whatever warmth had lingered between them dissolved in the silence.
She wanted to tell him just how cruel Mr. Hogan Chambers had been-but she
didn’t dare. She couldn’t risk her grandmother’s life.
“Daniel, you and Ms. Cooper make a perfect match,” she whispered, tears streaking down her face.
Daniel stared at her back, suddenly finding all of this meaningless.
To her, he was nothing.
“In that case, what do you think this is?”
His voice was sharp, mocking. “If I have a fiancée, then what does that make you,
lying in my bed? Do you want me to pay you for your trouble?”
Each word cut deeper than the last, cruel and deliberate.
Aurora clutched the blanket, her breathing shaky and painful.
He looked at her with nothing but contempt.
She sat up, hugging the blanket to her chest, voice trembling so badly it barely sounded like her own.
“Daniel, you forced me.”
