Daniel’s hand rested lightly on her shoulder. He straightened, the tenderness in his eyes replaced by steely resolve.
“That’s settled.”
“We’ll hold a press conference. After the public apology, you’ll leave the country.”
Samuel’s composure cracked. “Dan, you’re kicking me out for her?”

Daniel’s tone was icy. “Would you rather go to prison?”
Samuel fell silent, all arguments dying on his lips.
The Chambers Group had lost a fortune over that incident. If they really wanted to press charges, Samuel could easily spend years behind bars. Forcing him to leave the country was already an act of mercy.
Jordan grew desperate. He turned hopefully to Mr. Hogan Chambers, silently pleading for an intervention.
But Mr. Hogan Chambers remained silent, making it clear he wouldn’t help.
Jordan clenched his jaw and finally turned to Grandma Grace. “Mom, I promise I’ll keep Samuel in line from now on. If Aurora wants compensation for all she’s been through, anything-just name it.”
For the first time, he bowed his head.

Grandma Grace had lost all faith in him long ago.
“If you’d raised him right, would he have turned out like this? Demanding his sister kneel and beg forgiveness-what kind of person does that?”

He needed Eleanor’s help. She was the only one who might sway Daniel.
Jordan hurried after him.
Mr. Hogan Chambers cleared his throat, as if to speak.
Aurora’s expression was blank as she said, “Please leave. Grandma needs to rest.”
Mr. Hogan Chambers glanced at Grandma Grace’s pale, exhausted face. He rubbed his nose, wanting to say something but thinking better of it.

The warmth faded from Daniel’s face.
He’d cut a three-day business trip down to two, just to rush home for her. Now he’d stood up for her, taken her side against his own family.
And she was kicking him out.
All the passion he’d felt for her was chilled by her indifference.
He pulled her out of the room, studying her face.
“Are you blaming me?”
Aurora met his gaze, expression cold. “The waiting period for the divorce is almost
over. I expect you to be there on time.”
A heavy silence fell in the hallway.
Daniel let go of her, his lips pressed into a thin line, eyes darkening.

“Aurora-”
He reached for her hand, his voice low and gentle.
Aurora jerked away, eyes swollen and furious. “Daniel, it was you, wasn’t it? You told Eleanor to bring Grandma back to Fairvale.”
Daniel frowned. “I can explain.” He recounted the events of that day. “Aurora, it was all a misunderstanding.” As soon as he found out, he’d immediately had Grandma transferred to another room.
Aurora shook her head, refusing to listen.
Pain flickered in her eyes, layered and deep.
“Daniel, I don’t love you anymore. Just let me go.”
“Aurora-”
She tilted her chin, impatience clear on her face, but her eyes glittered with biting sarcasm.
“When Eleanor ran away from her wedding, you settled for marrying me. Then she came back, and you kept things muddy between you two. Now, when I want a divorce, you claim you love me
She let out a cold laugh. “Do you have any shame at all?”
